The other day I was driving my wife's 2008 Explorer and the front A/C would momentarily just quit blowing!!!!!!!! It would be off for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute then it would just come back on. Is this normal????
are you sure it just quit, or could it have switched and been blowing out the defroster toward the window ? I cant think of anything that would shut the motor off completely other than loose electrical connection..... If it was blowing out the defrost, that can happen if you have a vacuum leak as the duct air routing is controlled by vacuum cylinders. Defrost is the default when you loose vacuum
Confirm what Steve mentioned re: if the airflow is coming from a different vent. If the blower motor stopped, you should be able to hear that change. Do you believe the blower motor stops?
The electronic controls should have a diagnostic mode that you can enter to have it tell you if it thinks everything is okay. There are position sensors on various doors so maybe if the airflow is being diverted, the self diagnostics can report that. I'll have to check tonight to see if I can get you the self diagnostic procedure. Or, if your warranty is a bumper-to-bumper warranty and the calendar time limit has not expired, you could have the dealer check in to it.
I've been having the same issue in my 96 4.0 xlt. It doesnt shut off, it just switches to the defroster for some reason (does not cool me off one bit!), so i have to keep switching from AC to the face and foot setting to get it back. Is there a reason they would start doing this?
