New to the forum and just purchased my first diesel. It's a 2004 f250, crew, 4x4.
Previous owner said he was told the truck got a new engine just before he bought it. However, he said he could not prove it. I think it is a new engine because the icp sensor is on the passenger valve cover and the truck is an early April-04 model. Early 04s had the icp sensor beneath the turbo next to the firewall. So, I think there's some truth to his claim.
How do I find out what specific engine is in the truck without pulling the engine. I need to know which parts to get.
Second question. Where it's the best place to get filters? Do most of u buy on line?
welcome to FTE, first look on the passenger side rocker cover there will be a sticker on there build date, I get my stuff from Riff raff diesel on line .
ALL 2004 model year trucks with a vehicle build date of September 29th, 2003 and later are considered LATE build 2004 model year trucks. Only trucks that have a build date earlier than mentioned above, are considered EARLY build trucks.
Thanks for the help, bf. By rocker cover, do u mean valve cover?
Yes ,Valve cover I'm not sure of any other place For ID but the ICP will be on the passenger side Valve cover and late 04 EBP will be at the thermo housing 05 and up I beleave EBP will be back closer to the ficm.
Mike also has great Info on the early and late build 6.0 Thanks M-Chan
Autozone carries OEM oil filters, it an FL-2016. I believe Wal-Mart also carries them. Fuel filter I used to get from the dealership but I will now be ordering the from Riffraff online.
