Is this a job I can do myself? I have a 2wd with spit beam front axle. Ive done bearings on it before. not sure why they want 500+ in labor for the job. Anyone have a write up on changing the ball joints? Any advice?
I got the "free" tool rental from Autozone and did mine in the driveway. It took me about a day because I had never done them before. They want $500 because it is a PIA to do and is a little labor intensive.
On a 2WD I can do all four in about 2.5 hours. But it books at like 6.
You need a press and some adapters, but like npcc said, you can be loaned those.
Just take the brakes off, then pull both nuts for the knuckle. Take the whole thing down then press or pound the old ball joints out, and new ones in. Don't skimp on the parts either. Go Moog.
Does anyone know if the OTC 7249 Ball Joint Service kit has the right size receivers? Or do I need to also buy the specific Ford update kit? I've got a 2005 Excursion 4x4. Thanks!
Rob - Great video and thank you for posting it. Reps to you!
it is a 3 part video. I seen some things in this video that was good and some soso. I would mark the camber adjustment before I would knock it loose. Torque wrench? Take the good, leave the bad..
