I have a 2001 F250 7.3. The p.o. had put a K&N FIPK. The full cold air kit with the cone filter on the truck. I am tired of cleaning it and oiling it and being down for hours waiting for it to dry. Is there a filter I can put on the K&N pipe. Or should I go to a junk yard to get oem stuff and do the big air filter"6647" I cant remember the number.
6637.... There shouldn't be a reason to clean your air filter enough to complain about it. I'm guessing its very dusty where you live. I'm sure you can get a pre filter to put over it if you want to or you could make one. Is your K&N boxed in or does the filter just go over and is exposed?
Very dry and dusty on the dirt roads and pastures. My K&N has two pieces of metal bent at a 90. One end has a hole the pipe goes through. Then the other piece goes back toward the fender. The fiter goes between the battery tray and the metal and bolts to a braket on the fender. I know this off topic. I have thinking about leveling the truck. If I did a spring pack or leaf bolck. Would I need a new track bar? I have read about 20 pages and have not found an answer.
Don't go blocks if its a 4wd do it the right way. I have an 8" lift on my truck and the track bar is stock. As for the air filter how often are you needing to clean it? When I was using my truck as a dd I put 1 6637 on and changed it 2 years later just because. I don't live where it's dusty though. Maybe someone around your area or the desert will chime in and help you out with the filter question more than I can.
John2001 I meant a leaf pack not a block. I am just tired of seeing the front nose down. I clean it more often in the summer than in the winter. It probably gets cleaned about four times a year. I probably clean it to much. I was just thinking if I could find another filter that will hook up to the set up I have it would just be easier.
I live in the desert - plenty of dust. I get 20K miles out of the Ford AIS (link in my signature), but I might not be as dusty as you... it's hard to pin down "who's dustier".

In your situation with all that dust I would use the AIS for sure. My setup is over 400 hp and my AIS flows fine. I also have a 4" lift and mine uses the factory track bar with a drop bracket on the frame. Leveling kits normally use the factory bar with no drop bracket.
Tugly, I bet you are "dustier". I just don't like the down time washing the filter. Other than that it is not a big deal. I was just thinking if there was a replacement that would fit on the K&N pipe I would change it. If not oh well. Whats a few hours of down time. Also as long as I am not dusting my engine.
Oiled filters are terrible for dusty climates. They are designed for racing environments where they are serviced frequently. Even K&N acknowledges this as their roots before entering the consumer market, and it shows in their marketing publications.
I run the same filter as Tugly, and I too love it. Its based on the same filter technology used by the M1 Abrams tank. I bet they win the "who's dustier" contest.
