Mustang II basically a reskinned Pinto. Would you install Pinto front suspension/rack & pinion steering in your truck?

If this setup was known as Pinto instead of Mustang II, how many do you think people would buy?

Well I never hated the pintos. Hell the original mustangs were based on the economy falcon suspensions. But in a 5000 lb truck, that suspension would be crap.

There are many MII variants that are suitable for trucks.

F100 modification/build

I would prefer to keep the IIbeam set up. Is there any aftermarket upgrades that would help with sway and handling? I found a donor with the 460 which should supply some of the swap parts like engine perches, power brakes, power steering,A/c possibly.
Am I right to assume the front coils in the donor '77 w/460 heavier than the coils in the 66' w/452 and would need also be swapped to keep the camber set up right? Also wondered if the 9" rear axels should be swapped out? I thought I read on some older posts that the old '66 might not be able to take the added power and may have different no. splines?

Addco front and rear sway bars are available from Summit Racing, as well as KYB gas shocks. When I bought mine a couple of years ago the part numbers for the sway bars were: Front, P/N ACO-113, $150.57; Rear, P/N ACO-340, $174.83. There is a choice of shocks. I replaced these plus my front coil springs and all the rubber bushings in the suspension. Left the I-beams alone. I think you'll be surprised how nicely it rides and handles. I don't think there's a lot of difference in weight between the 460 and an FE - the 460 is probably a little heavier, but I could be wrong. Good luck!

I placed my 6cyl springs against the 460 springs and they look to be the same height. The 460's are a bit thicker though.

Attached (hopefully) are three pix of my sway bar installations. The first is of the trial installation of the front bar. The second shows front bar attachment to the I-beam along with the new coil spring, new shock, and new disc brake plumbing. The third is of the rear bar and new shocks as seen from above with the bed not installed. The rear bar was bent by Addco as if the differential were centered. Of course it isn't, so it looks a little weird, but it works fine. Hope this helps.

F100 modification/build

Was not sure if I could get a response posting to this older thread?
Here is a couple questions. I found a '77 calif donor truck w/the 460 and C4. Comparing the rear tags the '66 looks like:
WDM-H
3 25 5JA 313

'77 at best glance:
FE 4B 7DB
25 9 38

Am I right to assume the '77 has 388 gears but what's in the '66s?

Not sure why the yellow blip came up covering the last number of the '77 tag but here it is again:
FE 4B 7DB
25 9 388
