I am new to the site and just started a restoration project on a 1965 F100. I have taken it down to the frame, sandblasted and painted the frame. The question I have is this. I want to update the suspension and convert to disc brakes. I have found a really cheap 1972 F250. I have read in these posts that this should work with little or no fabrication. is this true? Also, how do I know what type of rear end I have on my truck? Would you use the one from the 72 F250?
This project started out as something to just tinker with. As you can see it has turned into a full blown rebuild. i will probably be posting quite a but on this message board. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but I have never gone as far as taking something all the way down to the frame.
I am sure some one will correct me if im wrong on this but i am almost sure you want to get a F-150 ford your doner truck I am looking at a disk break and power steering swap and some post from the past i was looking at say you want a 72-79 F150.
Welcome aboard Jeoliver; I recommend finding a 79 below F100 for easy swap; a 250 lug pattern is a different pattern I beleive. great for hauling & towing verse's daily driving IMP..

Welcome to FTE
You can't use F250 disc brake parts, the wheels are 8 lug wheels x 6.50" bolt pattern. Your F100 has a 5 lug x 5.50" bolt pattern.
You need a 1973/74 F100, or 1975/79 F100/150 for a donor vehicle.
Your truck could have three different rear axles. Look at the center rear of the axle housing. No inspection cover, it's a Ford 9 inch rear end.
If it has an inspection cover, it's either a Dana 44 or Dana 60.2 rear end.
The F250 has a slightly different Dana 60, but I wouldn't want one in my 1965 F100 (yes, I have one also). The gearing will be waaay too low, and parts will be expensive, if and when it breaks.
Thank you, you guys saved me a good chunk of money. My rear end does not have an inspection window. I will continue my search for a donor. I called a couple of places looking for a conversion kit. No Luck!

One of the members who spends time in this forum is named jowilker. He knows these trucks very well.
He's lives in Creedmore, NC and may know of some parts sources.
btw: The 3 day Ford Nationals are coming up in May, and will be held in Knoxville TN.
That's THE meet to attend for parts and for lookin' at hundreds of trucks.
I'm going to be there, but not with a truck...the wife and I are flying in from CA.
If you either post your complete warranty plate data; we can decode it; there's also in the Article / Specs forum data you can retrieve yourself; not all the warranty data on this forum; so easiest way is post your data.
Dajudge51 (Larry) & I will also be at the Supernationals on the 16th & 17th. Hope to see you guys there.
Heres some links from the articles here at FTE!
Look at these links and keep in mind you need the brake install for a 1964.
Because your frame is 1961--1964 no I-beams one soild axel an front leafs.
the front of your frame already has a ( A-dapter) cross member so no Y-block
First and foremost!!!Welcome to FTE. Originally was going to post a source for the 65-66 front disc. brake upgrade but somehow missed your 65 does not have the front I Beam suspention. Anyhow, again welcome to FTE.
