I have a 1985 f250 4x4 that is a rust bucket. It has a 460 and a manual transmission without A/C. I am planning on swapping my rust free cab off my 1980 f250 4x4 with a 400 auto with A/C.
Questions are, what am I going to run into with adding the clutch pedal to the 80 cab?
Will I be able to add AC to the 85? I have a dash with vents and all the parts to do it. If I don't, is the hole in the firewall the same where the heater box is?
I just want to know now before I get into it and have issues.
You are swapping in the A/C cab, so you should be good to go there. You will have to locate and drill the holes for the master cylinder, and some people recommend this is a good time to add the reinforcement plate for that area as well.
You will have to figure out how to mount the A/C compressor and the pulleys and belts to the 460. And you are going to have to do a little head scratching to mate the two wiring harnesses together. I am not sure the 1980 A/C harness will be ok with the 460, since your 460 has electric fuel pumps correct?
The master cylinder is not a problem. Nor is adding the plate for strength. I would assume I could find the brackets for the AC pump at pick and pull or something. I had the dash out of the 80 at one point, and it is not hard to pull the old and pull the 460 wiring harness into the AC dash. That just leaves connecting the AC controls into the harness.
I dont really don't know if the fuel pump is mechanical or electric. I do know it only has the front tank.
I do have electric pumps. I have it planned out to where I will pull the rusted body off, and have the rust free body off in 1 day. Lets just see how well my plan will work! Will probabily be doing this in the next 2 weeks or so. Will add before and after pictures!
