Did a 1600 mile trip to see my first grandbaby born (the most beautiful lil babe I have ever seen ) and noticed that the cruise 2x would just shut off. Most of the time tho it ran fine. Every once in a while when I would stop for gas and turn off the motor the cruise would not come on at all when we headed back out. Sometimes when it did this it would not come back on till I shut off the truck and then restart. Other times it would work after 20 or so miles.
When it did shut off or not come on, I would try turning it on and off, mashing the buttons HARD, and using a few words I won;t repeat here .
Any ideas what to do? Or should I just take it to the dealer and be done with it?
If you don't have the tools or know someone with them your going
to have to go to someone that does and Ford will but you will pay for it.
Your going to need a scanner that is much better than what you can
get at Autozone. Your going to have to run the diagnostics program
so that you can check the switches and clock spring first of all.
Some of this may show up as a DTC with a scanner also and that will
give you a starting place.
Has your speedometer acted up at all like the displayed speed jumping
around? If that is yes it could be in the VSS sensor or circuit.
Do you have other wheel controls like the sound system and are they working right?
If no then your looking at the Clock Spring.
Also a faulty brake switch will take it out of cruse and could keep it from going back
in.
Lots of things to check. Post back what you find and any other things that are going on
related or not because they may be. The truck has a lot of computers that chat with
each other and you never know where a problem is with out having a little chat with them yourself.
IF you can find a parts house with a scanner than can run the KOER (key on,engine running) self test, it will lead you right to the issue. I'd still guess brake switch based on symptoms but a scanner would tell you. But if you have the warranty you might as well use it!
