I have trying to decide if I was going to keep my truck, or sell it and get a more modern truck with better brakes and more power.
We use our truck to go camping with our mules and dogs. We haul a heavy 20 foot stock trailer with at least two mules on board. I also have a welder and an air compressor in the bed of the truck, and then with a couple bales of hay, all our tack and camping supplies, the truck just cannot hardly do the work. To top it off, we travel in long steep canyons in the sierra nevada mountains.
I have decided to go ahead and upgrade my truck. I recently had a new clutch put in and had the rear main replaced.
I am also going to get a new pump and new injectors, a new banks kit, and some more advanced after market rotors (dimpled and slotted).
the banks kit I obviously just order direct, but I am wondering if anybody has suggestions as to what pump and injectors to get. I have read about some people getting theirs from that place called Pensacola in Florida. I do not want to get that one. I am not to worried about anything special, I just want good replacement parts. I'll get the additional power I need from the banks kit.
I'll post some pictures when I get started with the work.
The moose pump descriptions don't really give useful information, such as cc's of flow, or how they are calibrated. I would use IDI performance parts for your fuel upgrades. Since you tow, you might also want to think about an intercooler even though they are a PITA to pipe because there are no existing pre-fab kits available. That would really help you get the most out of your fuel and turbo upgrades. As for brakes, if you need to stop a lot of weight, do a hydro boost conversion (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...st-brakes.html). Note the latest updates to the thread that explain the importance of a F450 pedal OR pin relocation on your existing one. The special rotors and such may help keep brakes cool etc., and are probably not a bad idea, but nothing will come close to giving you the stopping power of hydro.
I did read about that hydroboost upgrade. Although I would like to have more stopping power, my real problem right now is that I keep warping rotors from the heat.
Yeah, I do downshift and use the motor to help and also have good trailer brakes, but for some reason I keep warping my rotors.
The brake shop said it was because the rear adjusters do not work properly and you end up with most the load on the front brakes, and since I am a heavy use of the brakes, it ends up warping the rotors.

are they pulling my leg with this explanation?
Heat can warp the rotors. It also can could be pad compound depositing on the rotors due to the heat. It will feel the same as a warped rotor. You could look into a higher temperature pad compound (kind of like race pads on a car). You can manage heat by increasing the thermal capacity of the brake set-up. This could be done by increasing the mass of the rotor set up or increasing the cooling to the front rotors with brake ducts. It may help if you are able to switch more braking bias to the rear as well......spread out the heat over all 4 wheels more evenly.
I ended up ordering the moose pump and the moose misters and the banks sidewinder kit. I also just put a new, larger clutch in the truck. So between all these upgrades, the old girl just got about 6k put into her.
the turbo kit will be here tomorrow and the pump and injectors will be here early next week.
I'll get started on the work real quickly. Hopefully it will not take to long to get it all installed.
you got some work cut out for ya.you'll like that banks kit.the whole deal is real high quality,as you'll soon see.some of the stuff is tight though! so get ready for some bloody knuckles and cus words.worth it in the end.
for warped brake rotor issues i went with some dimpled and slotted lifetime warranty rotors from here; Brake Rotors Brake Discs Drilled Slotted Rotors
For work, I am a welder and metal worker, and for play, I keep and ride mules and donkeys, so I am no stranger to blood and cuss words.
I did read your post for your install of the banks kit, so hopefully that will help me some.
My biggest concern is getting the pump timed correctly. I know I saw an article on here regarding the proper way to install and time the pump, I just have to find it.
