Today, for the first time, i decided to lower my spare tire to inspect it and to practice removing and re-installing it. Oh-my! I cant imagine doing this on the side of the road somewhere.
Has anyone come up with an easy way to down and back up. I consider myself in pretty good shape and i go to the gym a few days a week, but i really struggled both in removing and reinstalling the spare. i used a floor jack to help hold it up as i put the mounting bolt in.
Any tips?
Well, in reality ya'd only have to get the spare out while on the side of the road. I mean, why would anyone put a flat tire back in the rack? It is a truck with a big ol bed.
I'd let the tire guys reinstall it when the flat gets fixed.

Next time you go to the gym, add a quarter on each side for bench press. When working out your back arms, add a dime on each side. When curling add a nickel on each side then a dime. Next time you have to "Practice" spare tire removal, it won't be so hard.
I did what John said to do. But made my own from a light boat type winch mounted to te back side of the bunper an a pulley and a Tee lift bar hooked at the end of the cable that fits through the center wheel hole with two lug studs facing up that will line up to the bolt pattern too hold it in place while it's being pulled up too the frame or pulley. Then put the OEM flat lift bar back up in place. Maybe I can get some pixs of it.
Oh I do remove the crank handle bar so the winch can't be seen from the rear..orich
i guess my point was...the spare tire setup was designed way back then...i want to make the whole process an easier process. i would rather pay for an easier solution. As some have already mentioned, installing a cable system would simplify things. thats my plan. Although, i love these trucks, i dont want to be crawling around under them wrestling with a spare tire. I was just looking for a possible solution.
