I want to get a winch for my 11 f-350 but really would like to get a multi mount type so that I could mount it to the front or rear of my truck via a 2" front or rear hitch receiver. The warn Zeon 10 is the largest multi mount they sell and with a 10,000 lbs capacity I'm not sure it would be enough. Any winch guys out there that could tell me if its enough or not.
Thanks
General rule of thumb is one and a half times the vehicle weight. So it would technically be a bit under sized, but as you have found, that is about the limit for that style mount. My personal experience with warn winches is they tend to be rated conservatively, and your truck would have to be in quite the pickle to need more winch. You can always use a ****** block and double up your pulling power ( which comes with any winch accessory kit) .
While a class 5 hitch may be rated to tow 17K, does that mean it can actually take 17K of pull? Obviously, a 17K trailer doesn't take 17K pull to move (or stop) but wondering if 10K is as much as the hitches can take? I'm also wondering how you would mount a receiver up front that would be class 5 rated? I'm all about bigger is better (horsepower, caliber ect) but winching can get really dangerous really fast if you're not careful.
Now I'm thinking of getting the 16k winch from warn and fabricating my own multi mount winch cradle. I can always beef up the existing hitch receiver if needs be. What do you guys think?

I'm a little hesitant, that's a lot of pull/ shear force on the pin. You can't always pull strait on either, it would be tough to reinforce a single receiver to handle more side loading. If you feel you need more winch I think you just need to get a proper winch bumper/ mount at that point. It looks cooler anyway lol.
Thanks for all the help guys. I keep changing my mind and seems like I'm over researching this but that's what I do with every purchase I make. I found this multi mount that is rated to 12k and it looks really clean. I can mount at the front and rear and protects the winch from the elements should I decide to leave it on the truck. It also has two compartments on each side to store all your straps/clevis/****** blocks. It's either this option or from the other posts I'm thinking of just permanently mounting a 16k winch up front. Decisions decisions but you guys are definitely a big help. Thx
How are you liking your zeon 12K? Do you feel that the 12K is sufficient enough? Those zeon winches are just soo beautiful and I definitely want one as long as its enough winch and I don't end up getting the 16.5. I value your opinion, your reviews are the reason why I have a pin top installed on my truck
I really wish I could tell you the winch works great but I have not used it yet (other than fooling around pulling over trees etc). Since I put it on I have not gotten stuck and I have only pulled out a couple of people that were not all that stuck.
It seems to work fine.......
It sure is a good looking winch IMHO and it is still warn so I am not all that worried about it.
I was a bit leery of the 12k myself. I was leaning heavily to the 16k but the zeon just looked too cool. So I have a couple of ****** blocks and I think she should be fine. If I get so stuck 24k can't get me out I probably should leave the truck there anyway.
Sorry, not much help, but here are a couple of pics
