This has been discussed to death I know (sorry in advance), but I thought I would collect the thoughts of the dealer techs in one thread (assuming you are willing to participate on a "beat to death topic" one more time).
The topic is Ford Gold coolant.
The internet is jam packed with Ford Gold haters. Most of them are just regurgitating what they have read.
So ..................... for the group of members that have seen more trucks than the rest of us (ie the Techs), what are your positions on using Ford Gold coolant?
The primary assumption is that we are talking about properly maintained engines that have not been abused. A second assumption is that the EGR system is still intact. A third assumption is that an engine could be tuned or not. Lastly, please assume that head gaskets have not failed and critical components like water pumps and fans are working properly, etc.
Question #1:
In your opinion, is it inevitable that the Ford Gold will fail and either gel up or form great amounts of solids (remember the above assumptions)?
Question #2:
Assuming you do not see the Ford Gold as an inevitable failure point, what things are required of the owners to ensure reliability?
Again - my appreciation and my apologies in advance - lol!
After the Tech input, I can start another thread for discussing this one (if anyone cares), but for now, I would just like the Tech input.
hmmmmm.
106k im still running it. need to drain and fill again soon though.
i have not ever seen gold coolant gel up.
yes like all other coolants in use today it will fail and need to be chaged at some point. moniter it with a dvom and or a hydrometer
i just dont see were the elc is doing anything else special after having changed a few oil coolers with trucks running that
But, to be fair, do you know the history of the oil coolers that you changed out. How long had they previously run on what coolant, and how long had they run ELC?

Any tech is going to be reliant to a certain point on the input of his customer unless the problem is blatantly obvious. I suggest we just go by the techs past experiences and assumptions based on their expertise and not muddy up the waters with if's and mayby's. That's how some of the oil threads became living documents that meant nothing at the end of the day.

I'm not calling Moe out here. I'm still running the gold coolant after 192K myself but I don't have a factory oil cooler anymore.
I've owned a ton of 6.0's and work on tons daily. Way to many E-series too.
I run nothing but gold in mine, and customers. If, like anything on our trucks, you maintain it properly it will be just fine. Never seen it do anything that ELC won't. I've replaced coolers with ELC and without. I have never replaced any of the coolers on my trucks at all. Filters and 30k flushes regardless of coolant quality.
I could not justify telling a customer to spend the extra money to use ELC.
