'68 F100, 360, 3 sp column. I have 2nd and 3rd but when I try to bring it forward for 1st and reverse, its almost like there is a wall there and wont allow me to come forward. Again, it doesn't move forward at all, just up and down in 2nd and 3rd. I read a few posts similar to my problem but I just wanted to make sure this isn't the same issue going on.
my shift tube is damaged.... fixing via floor shifter.
Did you tear the column apart and actually look at the shift tube?
The usual cause for the shft lever only actuating first and reverse or 2nd and third are the two rubber bushings/insulators on the two selector levers, bottom of the steering column under the hood...a 30 buck fix.
Call me goofy or nostalgic but I love the old 3 on the tree. I'd fix it instead of put a floor shifter on it. But that's just me!
I'm actually considering switching mine to column shift from floor shift. Is there such a thing as a 4 on the tree?
Don't go there, as hard as it is to splain to some of these fellers how to shift an ol Ford with it hanging, adding another gear would put that over the top.
Actually I believe Mercedes did have a 4 spd column shift, don't know who else might have.
