So the work truck is still heating up. Things changed:Water pump, t-stat, radiator, IAC Valve, Intake manifold gaskets(upper & lower), MAF, Coolant temp sensor, clutch fan. I think thats it. Also added electric fan out of Lincoln Towncar. To no avail. It still pegs out the gauge and goes into limp mode, then dies. Starts right back up in 45 seconds with no errors and no lights. I can sit at a light with AC going for as long as I want but when I start moving it heats up. I've been afraid to change motors due to using alot of this stuff on new one. I caved and took it to the dealer today. It also has a rich lean code for o2 not switching so having them check that while its there. It overheated(?) in the guys stall today and now they sent it to the diesel side to look for water flow obstruction. I am really hoping that they find something but my heart sank when I first started my build of the new motor and an old freeze plug fell out of the block. If that is all this things problem is I will be glad but mad and confused as to how I will get it out. Sorry about just ranting but this has been going on for 2 and a half years. Supposedly the guy working on it today said it was hot at the top of the radiator and cold at the bottom. The t-stat is no more than six months old from this same dealership. I will wait until tomorrow to see what they say. I only gave an approval for one hour diagnostic so I hope they get-r-done in that time.
Well, Let's hope they are right! According to them (and you Ben ) the only problem is a bad t-stat. I will be hooking up the travel trailer on Friday and just driving it up towards Tahoe to see if it overheats(?) again. The first time this happened it did it in Auburn. That is like 15 minutes from home and approx. 2000 feet up. It should get to 100 degrees outside today so... Nice thing is that if it does overheat, the service righter said it is covered for 12 months or 12000 miles!! I should've done this in 09 when I bought the truck. They did also say that that strange hum or like fog horn sound (a lot of us have heard) is most definitely the IAC sticking. So back to Car Quest to get that swapped out today. However I may have to go to dealer for it (the IAC) if it still happens.
Just two questions. One are you replacing it with Fords t stat? Two are you only using Fords gold coolant?
I was having issues with my truck also and replace everything coolant related. T state three times and coolant and flush also. Once I order a new t stat ford oem and gold coolant flush all the old green stuff out and put the gold stuff in problem when away. Wish I would have done this before for doing a radiator and clutch fan even though clutch fan was going out.
Yes on the t-stat. But no on the coolant. My truck is running at 208-221 Just driving around town. However, around town is 50 feet to 2000 feet within fifteen minutes. I still think that is hot. That is in the truck in my signature not towing. I have been watching the incoming air temp and it has been ranging from 100-130 degrees. That might be a factor unless my other truck that only runs at 194 in the same town. Same coolant and same motor. by the by this truck tips the scale at 7600 pounds.

Reason: Truck weight

Ya I don't know, all I know is when I changed the coolant out and the t stat with ford oem it fixed my problem.
