Possible cooling issue

Hey guys, so yesterday on way home from work, it was hot out so i turned on the a/c, and made it almost home just fkne, but when i started up thia big hill close to my house, i kicked the truck out of over drive, as i usually do. About half way up, i noticed truck was getting hot, the guage has always read right below half way, but she was at the end of the "normal" range, the a/c was still on, and i did notice it wasnt as cold as it had been up till that point, i turned off the a/c got to a light at top of hill, it started to cool down some, as i just started to move again. Got temp back to normal range, turned a/c back on to see if i could get truck to do it again, and she stayed right in the normal range. Got home popped to hood, while truck was running, and with a/c on, sat there for few min. And everything was fine. I checked the clutch fan, and i can spin easily while truck is off. When truck is running i tried to see if i could get the fan to stop or slow down to see if its engaging or not, and cant seem to slow it down or stop it. Today on way home, had everything blowing ice cold again, went up same hill and truck didnt heat up!!! I know the thermastat is working, i can see that, and the a/c pump clutch is working, i can see that too. Any ideas??? When truck has sat for a couple hours to cool down, i can go out and spin the fan pretty easily, not much resistance. But when truck is cold and running the fan seems to be engaged, because i cant get it to slow at all or stop. Is this normal, or is the fan always engaged? And if its always engaged, wouldnt that just keep the trucl running cooler??? Any help is great. Looked arpind at the posts, but just camt find same situation. Thanks again

Ya, the coolant level is perfect, and had the local ford dealership flush it and replace about 3 months ago

[QUOTE=MabelF250;17986004]Ya, the coolant level is perfect, and had the local ford dealership flush it and replace about 3 months ago. The truck is a 7.5l f250 with about 127,000 miles on it, always been cared for, shes my "one and only" lol... so just want to make sure i fix whatever might be going on with her before we head to mountains. I checked for codes, and im getting nothing.

I was getting no codes but brand new rebuild less than 4000 miles and was overheating pulled the thermostat and it was not opening like it should went to ford got a new one and all is good again. The thermostat was opening but it was coming open late checked by putting in pot of water and monitoring temp as the water heated up.

Ya, i ordered a new 180 stat, should be here today, going to try that 1st, then go more toward just replacing pump and clutch fan. I tried the whole "slowing or stopping the fan" while it was at temp and running with a news paper roll, but i couldnt geg it to do either, and didnt want to damage the fan blades at all, so didnt push my luck. But i have never heard that turbine sound those make, or what i have heard from other vehicles in the past make, coming from mu truck. It makes noise as it turns, but the whole damn engine is loud under the hood, lol... so we will see what happens. Thanks for the input

You do not want to use a 180 degree t-stat on an EFI vehicle. You really need the factory rated 190/195 degree model. Running a lower temperature t-stat may keep the computer in open loop under cooler ambient conditions. Open loop means lower MPGs.

The most common problems with overheating are faulty thermostat, even brand new out of the box, faulty fan clutch, missing/broken fan shroud, clogged radiator fins (external) and/or internally plugged tubes. Running a lower temperature thermostat is only band-aiding another issue.

Ya, wasnt trying to bandaid anything, i am all about doing it right, but like you said most times its the stat, which is why i am starting there. I only ordered a 180 not to try to trick engine or other cooling parts, but read here and there it helps, but i just ordered another stat at the 195'... we will see if its the stat, if not, i will replace the water pump and the clutch fan at same time
