Ok, so this is not really about the power steering...it's about getting to the power steering. It's leaking from the housing, so I have to get it out...but there's a couple components in the way. I could probably get it done without removing them but I plan to convert this rig to a vegetable oil burner anyway, so the less clutter, the better.
I've attached a photo...I'm assuming the two main components seen are the air conditioning compressor and the cruise control. I'd like to remove them both to make it easier to get to the power steering.
Anyway, can I remove the air conditioner and the other thing (cruise control) without affecting anything else?
I am not a mechanic, but I don't mind twisting wrenches now and then.
The cruise can be removed but the A/C will be limited by the hoses as to how far you can move it. It's full of pressurized gas (freon) so you can't just unhook the lines and set it on the ground. On my 87 when you remove the air cleaner snorkel you have a new spot to access the ps pump.
