Im in the middle of swapping out my dash and i was just wondering has anyone ever had any luck with painting plastic interior parts and not having the sun complety destory the pant? if so what did you use and how did you?
I've been thinking about doing this with mine too. I like my blue interior, but its hard to take for extended periods of time and I really like the light gray interior offered in these trucks.

'Just find a donor truck and get the complete interior.
1992-1993 Grey is a different shade than the 1994+...
Also, the piece of interior trim that holds the headliner up in the front is different from 1992-93 than 1994+.
How much work is it to get the dash out of our trucks? I didn't think I would be able to get to all the bolts. How much stuff has to be removed?
There's 5? up on top where the defrost vents are, and about 8-10 along the bottom. After you remove the instrument cluster bezel, and whatnot it pretty much falls out for ya.
I painted my 89 F250 dash last month. I used the Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. I did mine in the truck, just mask off areas not to be painted. Removed vents and anything else I did not want to paint. I used Simple Green to clean off the dash, then rinse with water, Let it dry then painted.
And after:
Here's the rear cab trim. I'm swapping out for a 92 as it has a speaker that mounts in it. Had to do a few mods to the 92 trim to fit the seat belt mounts. Still have to mod the cab it self, stupid bracket in the way of the speaker.

So far its holding up really good.
Looks good, but when you take it out, you can get the paint into every nook, cranny and hidey hole.
I actually removed the defrost vents, cleaned them, and painted/clear coated them also.
Where was your firewall leak? I have one directly behind my gauge panel. Am waiting for a nice weekend to pull the entire dash out and fix the leak.
It was the firewall to cowl seam that was leaking. That old seam sealer cracked and leaked. I took the whole dash out and resealed the cowl area(outside and inside), and painted bed liner paint on the firewall. No more leaks execpt where the brake booster mounts and the AC box mounts. Those foam gaskets must of rotted now...
I have some threads about this about 4 to 5 years ago here.
