Anybody ever attempt to touch-up the paint on one of these guys?
The black parts that aren't covered up by the bezel are good, but the grey areas have black specks that I'd like to get rid of. Is it worth it to try to paint, or should I just let it be?
Also - the original bezels were painted, not chrome... right?
I didn't mess with painting that part. I think it will look fine as is. Paining the needles and the trim make a huge difference.
Before The glass needed a lot of work.

Yours looks great, too! What did you use for painting the bezel?
Here is the instrument panel in my 54. I painted the needles. I wiped the black paint with a rag wetted with Armour All to shine it up. I painted the bezel with Dupli-Color argent. Since then I bought a can of argent spray paint at my local Ford dealer which I think matches the argent even better. Its flatter and not as metallic.

You will notice the speedo head in my 55 has some black specks or rust spots that I didn't try to get out. And I think I should have used a more red/orange color for the needles. They are too red... but I do take it to Concours car shows.
I used the Dupli-Color Argent. I got it a O'Reilly's or Auto Zone. Comparing the pictures, you can see mine has a more metallic flake look.
For the needles, I used red fingernail polish.
I used Krylon high heat radiator paint which is like flat this was done about 30yrs ago and also the gauges
came from I think 1975 or 76 truck the 53-55 face plate clip right on perfectly.
