Interior Panel Painting Thread

I picked up this 1996 dash at the junkyard for free...

1-Can of Interior paint from LMC Truck (Dark Red) $14.50 + S/H
1-Can of Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter
1-Can of Tuff Stuff cleaning agent

Step-1 is to clean all the dirt, grease and grime off the panel to be painted.

Use a plastic razor blade to remove tape, foam backing, etc...

Use your thumb to hold the inner piece of the power point still, while you untwist the outer backing.

After stripping the skin from the AC Ducts, and removing fasteners, etc..

Apply the adhesion promoter. It runs like water, so apply it in 3-5 thing coats.

Then start with the paint.

Same procedure. Apply thin coats, to layer the paint and create a "Base". it'll take 2-4 coats to get a moderately consistent layer.

Nevermind the discolored splotch. It was apparently dust or something, nothing on the dash.

Keep layering the coats, thinly... Til you reach a consistent covering with no bubbling, fisheyes, or striping.

And, now in other news, we will detail how Not to paint your interior. Dan?
(Dan) Thanks, Ted. First of all, don't have a spray can on the floor.
Second, don't lay a tool of any kind on the can.
Third, have scraper handy to make opening to see through for the journey home...Back to you, Ted...

You would not believe how much I have laughed at that...

My sides literally hurt the first time you posted those pics.

Btw, try WD-40....It usually lifts paints right off...

I like the color, wanna fight about it?

As for the deck, it's an older portion that has to be redone anyways.

Please do not start with me on this, if you like the work, etc...Great.

If not, shake your head and move along.

Simple as that.

It's really amazing how many thousands of gallons of paint one of those small spray cans hold!!!!!!

Also don't leave them spray bombs on the dash in HOT Florida summer day.....at least it was my friend's car that recived the black paint job inside!

About 2 years ago my friend who has a 92 F150 pulled his dash out and painted it a Royal Blue color. Its held up just fine. The only problems he had is the arm rest paint wore off and also where you lay your arm on the door panel.
