Borrow a better impact before replacing something that isn't necessary

My lines are starting to bend. I don't want to snap them. They look like they unclip and the lines slide out?

Well Dom I got mine off with my cordless impact Hitachi But my Hitachi will drive a 8 inch screw into wood with No Piolet Hole so one of the better Ones

The Best Cordless impact gun I have used was Makita And I Had all of them

You may need to find a Impact Gun that has a Cord some of those have Lots of torq Becareful in construction we used them to drive Big Lag Bolts

Tie that Little F#$$E%R Down with a Strap like Rusty says

And Next Time Don't Use the Impact to Hammer it back On

I'm gonna try one more time to get the old one loose. If not, then I'm gonna try to get this new one on. 3 bolts for the bracket and I'm afraid it might be real tight on space just to get a wrench in there.

Suggy, I havent had to much luck with Harbor tools ,Dewalt has an impact pretty compact and you can change to use as a screw gun its sweet. can you get a 3/8 drive with a pipe on the handle and brake her loose then use the impact, we call it a perswader.

Here's a trick I've had good luck with, especially on alloy fasteners as they conduct temperature change quickly. Disclaimer: I've not tried this on the Trans filter, but it's worth a try:

Essentially you are wanting to heat the clamping side (female threaded) and cool the male threaded side -- the heat causes expansion and the cold contraction. You'd be surprised how little it takes to release a stuck fastener. I usually use ice for cooling and a propane torch (if it's safe) for heating.

specific to your case: I'd have a baggy of ice ready and LIGHTLY heat the filter housing and place the small baggy of ice on top of the trans line part of the housing (should just sit there). You need to hit it pretty quick with the rattle gun as soon as you've heated and then placed the ice (ok maybe give the ice a few seconds).

I hope it works!

Thanks guys. I got the top 2 bolts out. I had to remove the hot side cac tube and my coolant filter assembly to access the top 2 bolts.

The lines look like quick disconnect lines. I went out and bought me a quick disconnect tool. It was a fancy set. Frigging 25 bucks. I think the tranny lines are 1/2 inch. After all is said and done, damn sky turned dark on me. Argh!!!

oh well, i guess i will continue tomorrow when i get back from work. if they're quick disconnect lines, they should be easy to come off.

how wrong was i.i got the ford-specific disconnect tool. i had to buy a bunch of them before i figured out the correct one. the right tool will have a groove to fit that ridge on the line. now, here's my problem. how hard can i tug on the line? i seem to slot the tool into the nut, but the tranny lines dont seem to want to come off, and i dont want to apply too much pressure for fear of breaking the lines. should i apply more pressure to yank it out?

Dom,
Did you clean the fitting with some penetrating oil?
Some times crud will get into the gap and the spray
helps to flush it out and also to lubricate the fitting.

Also can you PLEASE post a photo of the RIGHT tool?

Thanks
Sean

I may not be helping you with getting the old housing off, but, when putting the new one on only tighten the housing wrist tight. The O ring does the sealing, not the threads. I've never used anything but a 1/4' hand ratchet for removal or installation. I lube my O rings with vaseline. Someone here said that's a no-no but I've never had a problem with it on tranny, oil or fuel filter O rings.

thanks for the quick response guys. here is the image address. http://static.summitracing.com/globa...L-39960_ml.jpg

i've read somewhere it said to change directions on the impact wrench to release a "frozen" fitting. clockwise, counterclockwise. 1 hit one way, 1 hit the other way.

i'll definitely remember all the good advice. thanks. now i just need to get that housing off. i'm gonna try PB blaster for about 30 mins, then try the impact wrench again.
