Just alittle reminder and I'll hang this in my shop aswell Tight right loose left, doesent matter when working upside down, unless working on reversed threads. not on our trucks. only vws and well I made the right thight
Thanks Benny. I let it sit overnight. I'll try again this morning. My cordless impact puts out 211 ft lbs on the reverse. Normally, that should be enough. My friend may try to get me into his shop this Sunday morning to use his air impact. Should be higher torque. Hopefully, it'll come out.
so some bad news. on sunday i discovered that my buddy is out of town in dallas. damn. then i refilled tranny fluid in the hopes that driving around and getting that valve in the torque converter to open and heat up the external filter housing enough to maybe work it loose. after refill, i started the truck. it cranked really weak but started. 10v on scangauge. damn. shut down. restarted. weaker still. 9v, 8v. then died. would not start.
took out batteries and alternator. discovered pigtail wire on alternator was nicked. damn again. autozone tested both batteries and alternator. they claim all are dead. got new reman 140 amp alternator. i'm assuming that when i went thru repairs about 2 years ago and the alternator was replaced according to stock specs. i'm thinking 110 amps? can anyone confirm stock specs for alternator?
anyway, i took both dead batteries to ford today. monday morning. they kept the batteries to load test them as well. called me back a few hours later to say that 1 battery is dead and 1 is still good. how odd. anyway, they charged up the "still good" battery and printed a report. then they replaced the dead battery.
got home after work. spliced the alternator pigtail wire. i used a lower gauge butt connector and attached the new pigtail wire. new connector. however, the pigtail wire connector i picked up from autozone is about $26 and it will come with 3 wires. our pigtail connector wires are only 2. just make sure u find the 2 electrical connectors that will plug into the pigtail connector. it's on the left and right. the middle is empty. i just rolled the middle wire up and used black electrical tape to tie it up good.
connected everything and she finally fired up at 9:45pm. woo hoo! she started real easy too. she seems to run quieter too. new alternator maybe?
when u spin the wheel on the old alternator, u could hear a loose piece clanking away inside. damn.
oh well, long story. anyway, i drove for a good 20 miles maybe, and got the tranny temp past 160 and to 165 degrees. got home and hit it again with impact wrench. still didnt budge. oh well. suggestions?
Dom: I posted this in Cody's thread on upgrades, maybe you didn't see it:
Snuggy: if you are still following this thread, why not try my ice cube trick after warming the filter housing by driving the truck (to transmission thermostat opening temps) versus my "flame" heating? That is if you haven't already tried it. It's not a new trick or concept, btw, heat expands and cold contracts: you apply both to the right parts of a fastener and you create a "looser" locking force. I've had success with it many times in the past... Of course when you do ever get it apart, maybe just leave the filter out and go to the '08 trans pan and filter set up? It'd be 100% filtration instead of (at most) 10% (plus 100% frustration you've got now!)
And the stock alternator was 110A unless the truck was ordered with the upgraded 140A or duals...
Thanks boss. Great info. I kinda figured it would be 110 amp. I was exhausted and not thinking right. I applied heat to it and she ain't budging. Anyway, my friend's dad is willing to help me get it out. He has air tools.
Just to confirm. I'll change it to an 08 tranny pan with 08 internal filter. Do my tranny flushes every 30k miles. Do I have to remove the filter from the current external housing?
So Dom, do you have Ice down in Texas? When I was there I had 4 ice makers in just the one house (granted it was a tiny 5000 sq ft job, but everything is big there, ya' know??....)
I'd leave the external filter out. And/or you could bypass the external unit completely, but you'd want to fab the hoses, or have someone do it. If mine comes apart easy, I'll just put a dab of silicone GREASE on the o-ring (not vasoline, it's not healthy for the o-rings they tell me) and throw a new filter in the case (I bought 2 already)

common... just a leeeetle baggy of ice???
Good luck and good night...
Scott where I come from we don't ice our trucks we Ice our beer LOL this is true expansion contraction works like a charm . good point Scott.
latest update. i tried tat ice thing. didnt work so i went with higher torque. borrowed my neighbor's air compressor and 1/2 inch impact wrench on a line. impact sure had torque alright. ripped my nut off the entire housing clean. now it's dripping out the hole in the filter housing where the 22mm nut used to be. damn.
on the bright side, i have a completely new external housing on standby. now, here's the hard part. i have the tranny line disconnect tool. it's plastic, but it fits. the line is a pain in the butt to get out and i have 4 of them. without causing extra alarm and not panicking, does anybody have any suggestions or ideas how to get those lines out of the housing? the tool fits but doesnt seem to go down all the way, and it's hard to press down on it cos it's plastic. the tool fits the slot about halfway. sigh.
sorry guys but i'm losing my patience with this truck. dang. i want to yell so bad but my neighbors might call the looney bin fellas on me.
also, my sister's boyfriend's friend, who is a mechanic, is gonna come by tomorrow morning and take a look at my predicament. hopefully, he'll have better luck than i do. i'm hoping for the best.
