I pull over and shut her down. Upon restart all is well. I had the turbo cleaned and unison ring replaced by Ford 20k ago and I've religiously run Ford's cetane booster at each fill-up. I can hear my VGT cycle when idling so I'm not hell bent on the veins sticking.
This problem has plagued me even after the turbo was cleaned 2 years ago. I loaded the codes into SGII for EBV and EBP and at high idle, the EPV is only 1.66v. The EBP at high idle (2500rpm) is 21.7. From the threads I have been reading, these values seem out-of-range compared to what the book values indicate and the voltage seems quite a bit low compared to what other posters have written. The other values at KOEO and low idle compared fine. This P0299 code and Wrench light only seems to happen as I mentioned after an engine shutdown for a little while. I can tow all day and not throw the wrench light unless I shut down for fuel. It's weird and I don't want to start throwing $$ at it. One more thing. The engine bay will develop a 'humming' sound occasionally, more pronounced when cold and it's either in the intake or exhaust system. I had the muffler swapped out 15k ago to a free flowing style. If the cat converter was breaking apart internally, would it make that kind of noise? If so, perhaps that's an exhaust blockage? If so, can the cat be gutted and not throw a code and still pass emissions? They do visual inspections here in CT, if they didn't I'd replace it with a 'test' pipe or a turbo back system deleting the damn thing. Any help is appreciated.

Mike I had to bring the 1st post up, have you tried tap on the EBP senser while watching the scan value if this speads the numbers then go for the EBP, I have to ask do you have the factory air filter ? then I would get some MAF cleaner and clean up the MAF senser. pull the IAT2 senser and get that thing cleaned. this is cost effective and if you need the sensers go to Riff raff diesel they WILL have the better Prices.

Those are great suggestions. I'll have to get a helper(daughter) to keep an eye on the values while I smack the bugger a few times. I have the stock air cleaner. I'll blast the MAF sensor too to clean it up. Where is the IAT2 sensor located on the engine? I'll pull that and clean it too. Benny, I know how frustrating these problems can be to diagnose. I'm headed out of state with the trailer this w\e, so I'll try to duplicate the P0299 fault code when towing. What ScanGauge values should I have on the screen ready-to-go?

IAT2 sensor is on the driver's side half of the intake manifold towards the front kinda under the dang harness.

The Iat2 senser is right behind the upper fuel bowl in the Intake , clean that with carb cleaner, the Maf use only MAF cleaner for some reason carb cleaner is too harsh. you don't need a ball ping hammer to do the EBP test just some thing to tap with ( screw driver ), watch the values as your doing this, it should not move if good. on the Gauge and Benny will correct me if I'm wrong
eot,ect,vgt,ebp,/ map, baro, ebp, bst. benny is on to something so I don't want to mix the pot to much
