I'm not sure if this could have cause this code to come up or the sensor is bad or what. I have a 2000 f-250 with 7.3, 281,000 miles. I have always used standard Rotella oil and last week installed Rotella synthetic for the first time and now i have a service engine light on. My buddy's code reader shows a p1280 code low pressure. The truck is running fine. Should i start with changing the ICP first and see if that clears it up?
You probably just got some air in the line. Clear the codes and see if it returns. If it does, the Injector Control Pressure sensors last about 12-13 years and 275K miles. I'm clowning around, but mine just died at those numbers.
He used a snap on reader, his best of the three he owns. I checked the wiring today it was attached and from what i can see they look ok. I ordered a new motorcraft sensor from Riffraff last night. I'm sure the old one is ready for a update. I will see what that does. Is there any chance the synthetic oil viscosity had an affect on the sensor? I'll clean the contacts tomorrow and see what that does.
Pressure is pressure. Synthetic isn't going to build any more or any less pressure than regular oil. It's just going to flow and wear different.
Now if the synthetic isn't properly rated, or if you added a bunch of oil additive, then it could be foaming and causing an issue, but if it's good diesel rated oil with no other additives in it, then it's not the oil.

Thanks for the reply. First time using Rotella synthetic and with my high mileage i thought it may have caused a issue.
I switched over to Rotella synthetic for a while when I had a little over 300,000 miles on the truck. Local walmart started selling it for less money than the regular rotella oil so I made the switch. Ran it for 4 or 5 oil changes till they stopped carrying it and then switched back to the regular stuff.
No codes, no leaks, no troubles at all and it's been over 100k miles since I switched and switched back.
