Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I read this forum well more than I should but it truly is a great place to gain knowledge from actual users and enthusiasts! So I thank you for that!
I am supposed to be taking delivery of my 2013 350 long bed kodiak brown king ranch next week and I need some help/advice on some key accessories.
These are the items I am having trouble finding feedback on:
1. Already ordered the S&B cold air intake with wet filter
2. Weather guard toolbox: aluminum or black?(never had black so I don't know how the paint holds up)
3. Husky xact floor liners or weather tech?
4. Best brand/quality vent shades for the windows?
5. Thinking of ordering the mini maxx tuner but would really like to hold off until jailbreak codes for the "good" tunes are available.
6. Depending on when I get the tuner I would also consider an exhaust. I currently have an MBRP on my 7.3L but I'm not sure which is the best brand now(i read that the exhaust doesn't even help anything without the tuner installed)
7. I would like to do the DPF delete(eventually) if a code is available for the tuner but don't want to void my warranty too soon.
8. Any window tint reccomendations(percentages)
For #5,6,7 there is only one place to call that I'd make, H&S Tuners. They made them first and now modified versions of them for the 13 and up, they won't sell them but they'll tell you all about them, just don't ever ask about fuel mileage or speed on highway, you're doing this to drag race and go to truck pulls, right, right!
The exhaust is nothing but straight pipes mostly, 4" or 5", EGR delete is dependent upon what H&S tells you.
#3 I ended up buying both and using the weather tech fronts and husky in the back. Weather techs seemed to fit better in the front and I like the husky rear better.
For the tuner, you can get a H&S race (delete) tuner from SPE. Looks like the price keeps going up LOL $1,549.00 now. H&S only sells "street" (non delete) tuners now.
There are guys here with deleted 13's already. Most here are using spartan tho.
Ford seems to be pretty sticky with warranty, if you put a tuner on you can say goodbye to it (for the most part). Although, in the red neck repulic of Alberta I did get a warranty water pump, ECM and alternator tuned and deleted. Results may vary......
I can't comment on most, but I can comment on #2. The weather guard black powdercoat holds up well. I have one that I traded a black DeeZee box for. On the DeeZee one powdercoat would just flake off, the weatherguard is tough............you get what you pay for. Mine is used hard and it's got scratches, bumps, and bruises, but the powdercoat only scratches, it doesn't come off in big flakes.
Thanks for the input. When I do go for the tuner option I will definitely go its the H&S. And of course I will be drag and sled pulling!!! It is a diesel truck right?! Right?
I decided to go with the clear aluminium finish today on the weatherguard. Tractor Supply is having a fathers day sale so I got the box for 15% off!! Woohoo! I paid $679 plus tax. Not bad for an $800+ box.
I also forgot to mention that I was thinking of bushwhacker pocket fender flares but I don't how misplaced they would look with stock 20" wheels and tires. Eventually I plan to upgrade and maybe a lift but since you have almost no tire options on these trucks from the factory I figured I might as well burn them up before I upgrade. Any of you guys using mud flaps? The ones I have for my 7.3 were factory but they were the nice ones and not a flat piece of plastic like they are now.
PERSONALLY, I don't like the look of the bushwacker flares on the stock wheels / tires. Lots of guys have it but it does look out of place to me. Probably works great at keeping the truck clean. I have them but I pushed my tires out 3" past where they were stock. Just my opinion.

You can still get the molded ones from Ford, but only as a dealer accessory. They only offer the flat ones from the factory. I like the look of the truck without them, but mine (dually) made such a mess of itself without them in the rain that I ordered the molded ones. They came with all the hardware and were cake to install.
