Spartan only upgrade

Just wondering if anyone has tried installing only the spartan programmer without doing the dpf delete or egr block off / delete? I have plans for intake and exhaust to come, but would like to try just the programmer to start.
What kind of mileage increases have you seen?
Has your regen cycles increased?
With only installing the programmer is there a chance of still voiding your warranty even if you haven't touched the egr or dpf?

Thanks for your input.

The warranty could still be voided if your dealer finds traces of the tuner. They can make life difficult for you even if you just put a new intake on it.

boots, it depends on the circumstances behind them finding your tuner.

If you bring your truck in for something like an A/C problem or a transmission fluid leak, they won't think anything of it because there's no chance the tuner caused the problem.

Now if your truck gets towed in with a blown motor, they are very likely to blame the tuner and not cover it because it's very likely the tuner caused the damage!

If an aftermarket modification explains why a part failed, Ford will not cover it. The problem here is if there is a legitimate product defect that could also have been caused by the tuner, they will blame the tuner every time. This is why I won't tune my truck!

And before everyone jumps in accusing Ford of screwing the customer, I have to say I think this is a fair practice! Believe me, Ford has bought many motors that have been blown because of tuning that wasn't detected. There are people on the Spartan forum who abuse their truck, blow their motor, return it to stock programming, and get the engine replaced under warranty. In my book this is fraud...Ford shouldn't have to pay for something damaged by aftermarket accessories.

totally agree with the above..that is why I have the banks 6-gun in mine. Clean tune, works with the emissions and maintains all the factory safe limits and will shut itself off if there is a eng issue.

Just another option to consider.

I agree with you, but I feel confident that the Spartan programmer alone will not be the direct cause of any problems. I don't plan on getting carried away with mods, I just feel the truck is very sluggish stock. I don't drive like a retard, and plan on having this truck for a long time. I don't plan on doing anything that could potentially harm my truck or push it to it's limits. I just want a little more jam.

Spatan is a great tuner dpf or no dpf. had dpf delete 250,275,310 on for about 1 1/2 years and no problems. Most of my friends who have ther truck stock are the ones having problems. And I know for a fact it is not tracable.

Why can't we just get a DPF delete kit and no performance tunes. I don't need any more horse power or performance. Just better fuel milage.

Even if you shut off the lights after taking off the DPF you will not see an increase in MPG that you would from a truck tuned properly. This will give you better MPG and more power. It just happens to be that the tunes with the most power tend to get the best MPG when driven lightely... go figure.

Even if you don't need the extra power or the extra MPG, keeping fuel out of the oil pan is a good idea. The regen is a joke.

In late 07 early 08 they had a dpf delete only for forest rangers due to the fires being started by the regen. And for the extra HP you get with these tune it sure puts a big grin on your face when these kids pull up next to you with there imports and the mufro making all kinds of noise and all they see is black smoke and your tail lights. My kids like it too!

When it's 210 tune or 275 tune what does this mean? 210 extra horsepower?

When they say 210 that is pretty much add. HP. the 6.4 dynos at only 290 HP give or take. with the 250 tune I dyno at 495 HP (at the tires) Have not dynoed the 275 or 310 yet. Like most are saying 210 is a tow safe tune due to it monitors the temps for you and defuels when they get to hot.

I run the Spartan DOC/DPF delete now, but was running the DPF on tunes earlier. It was not a really big increase in MPG and power, but it was definately better than stock. I had no real problem with the DPF on tuning, I just wanted more....They also have a DOC/DPF delete tune that is stock tuning without regen. No power increase. IMO, the emissions equipment/processes are what's wrong with the trucks. Get rid of the regen and the trucks run very well and come to life. Mine runs great now!

R-TOr21on, you said that your MPG wasn't much better w/DPF tunes than stock. I want to do the same thing, what was your mileage stock and then with DPF tunes?
