Tuner Questions

I am shopping for a new tuner for my 09 6.4L PS and I was wondering if you guys have heard of/used the 6.4L Twin Turbo Powerstroke Diesel Diablosport Predator Tuner from DiabloSport? I have a budget of $500 so I cannot afford the real good ones like Spartan. This tuner claims:
U7164 Stock Vehicle Tunes:
# Tow Tune
# 50hp Economy Performance Tune
# 80hp High Performance Tune
# 160hp Extreme Tune

I have searched for a thread that compares the current tuners and I can't find it. If anybody can point me to it I would be very happy. Thanks.

The only advice I will give is to give it some serious thought. Do you really want to cheap out on a product that can not only destroy your engine or driveline but then also void your warranty if such problems do occur? If you can't afford a higher quality "proven" tuner then you'd be a lot better off to leave the truck stock. This is just my opinion but I would never shell out 50K on a new vehicle and then try and save $1500 on a tuner and have problems. Enjoy it as is and save up the money to do it right. Good Luck

I cannot believe that it is a requirement to spend $1500 for a tuner. I would never buy a cheaply made tuner but who says $1500 is the starting point? What I am looking for is someone who has used a lower priced tuner and have had good luck. That way there would be little risk if it worked for someone else.

I never said it was a requirement to spend $1500 on a tuner. I was simply speaking of the Spartan tuner that has easily had the best reviews on this forum. There are plenty of cheap tuners out there that "might" work just fine for you. I was simply offering my opinion. Do what you want in the end because it's your truck and you have to live with any possible repair bills, not me.

SCT, Spartan and I have the banks. Those seem to be the best for this truck. Listen to Brandon and do your research.

well while i dont know about diablo on the 6.4s i had a friend that went with diablo on a 6.0 and blew the head gaskets...i have heard that diablo is not the way to go but personally have no experience with that product myself...i had an sct sf3 custom tuned on my old 6.0 and had no problems...now that i have a 6.4 im trying to decide between sct and spartan...anyways hope that helps

but 6.0s had a head bolt design that was close to tolerance, thus the head gasket impact. seems the 6.4s have much more tolerance built in.

I am new to the 6.4, (only had mine a few weeks) so this is just from the research that I have done. A few vendors use the SCT software, so that is kind of nice there that you wouldn't have to buy a new tuner if you wanted to switch tunes. The SCT also comes pre-loaded with tunes as well, and it is cheaper than the Spartan. The Spartan comes loaded with 12 tunes, which is a great bonus I think. Plus I hear that the DashDaq is a better gauge monitor than the Livewire, but Spartan is a little more pricey. Then you have to add in your delete pipes or exhaust. I think that I would save up a bit more money a buy a better tuner. The Livewire starts around $650 and you could run it for a while and then add custom tunes to it later. Personally I will be deciding between tunes from Spartan or Innovative Diesel.

That's pretty impressive. The bully dog maintains the DPF right? Have you had any dealer/warranty issues?
