Programmer vs. Diablo chip

I want to order a Diablo chip - but a programmer isn't much more money, if any at all. What are the benifits to getting a chip vs. a programmer?

I would like my truck to shift a little later because of the tires I put on.

I'm ready to get something, just want to get the right something.....

And I do plan on getting a bigger MAS Air Flow Censor - with this information, let have your opinion.

Programmer vs. Diablo chip

The Super Microtuner Advantages:
1. Diagnostic code reader
2. Plug and play operation

The Diablo Predator Advantages:
1. More programs than the Microtuner
2. Full text diagnostics
3. Custom shift modifications
4. Live sensor readouts
5. The ability to download custom tunes
6. The ability to update the device

Diablo Chip advantages
1. Switch on the fly between low and high HP settings. If you tow this is a big bonus. Whenever you see high EGTs you can switch down without having to slow down.
2. Ability to custom program for your needs

Is the Diablo Predator available for 2003 5.4? And how much is it?

My mistake. I overlooked your signature. The Predator is for the Powerstroke only.

Switching between hi/low doesn't matter much with a gas engine.

The advantages of the Diablo Delta chip in this case:
1. slighly more power
2. custom programming available (you cannot use the Microtuner with modifications other than intakes, exhausts and tire size chances).

ok...

You can set up the Diablo chip for my intake, Exhaust, and change the shift points (higher)?

Thats what Im looking for. Im not looking forward to turning it on and off(unless there is a good reason for it). And whats the deal with the higher octain programing? Do I have to run higher octain gas with the chip? Answer these and Ill order one tomorrow.

On a MAF vehicle the intake and exhaust have no impact on programming. Programming would be the same as stock.

Yes, we move the shift points (the more throttle the higher up). Higher octane is required so we can lean the fuel ratio and advance timing in order to gain horsepower and torque.

Are there plans to make a Diablo tuner in the future? do you have to use a chip to get the better mods. as far as overwriting the stock programming?

Yes, there are plans. It will cost the same as the diesel tuner. Its several months away. I can't speculate on whether it will allow modifications you'd normally get with a chip because it doesn't exist yet.
