My birthday is coming up next month and i am going to ask for a programmer or a chip as a present. i have been looking at all the chips and programmers from jet, hypertech, superchips and diablo. What one of these are better?? i would like to get a programmer cause of all the differnt things you can do with it. i would also like to have power throughout the RPM range. as for what i do with my my truck, the worst things i do with it are towing a bass boat and gettin on it a little. also for the other mods i have so far and i am going to add are, as of now i have cat back exhaust and air intake, things coming are the programmer or chip, headers, MAF and therottle body and and a therottle body spacer. So i leave it up to you all with the expireance to lead me to the right product. also when i get the programmer or chip should i get a 180 degree thermostat??
From what I've read, you either want the Diablo or the Superchips. I'm getting ready to order a Diablo, just waiting for my tax return to show up. Stay away from Jetchip, they only tune at wide open throttle, where Superchips and Diablo tune at all RPM's and throttle positions. Don't know about the 180 degree thermostat. I have heard mixed opinions, and Webmaster (Ken) doesn't seem to think they are a good thing if you have a chip, and I'd think he would know since he's the one that programs the chips.
For the most power, go with Diablo. For the most versatility for unmodified vehicles (except intakes, tires and exhausts), go with Superchips. Forget the 180 thermostat, your mileage will tank and the ability to pass emissions will suffer.
well after looking i would like to have the diablo. but i do pull a boat in the warmer months and i like the fact that you can choose a program and still have performace and still be safe to tow with the programmer. still having a hard time coosing between the diabl and superchip programmer.
Chip if you want switch on the fly, tuner if you want the diagnostic features. Chip is you want the most power, tuner if you want the most features. Both the chip and programmer can be used for towing.
Ken, you answered my question.....I want the diablo chip..
However, I have another one now. You mentioned that you can switch on the fly, now do I have to just run HIGH octane all the time so when I choose to switch it on, I have the good gas.
oh yeah, and why would I ever want to turn it off?
I have a Superchips Flip chip in my 98 V6 and it made all the difference in the world. Program one is a mild program that takes out the limiters and adds some HP. You can tow on it. Side two is all out performance. No towing. Easy to install. It made my truck change like night and day.
thanks for all the info. i would love to have the chip. the only reason i am leary about the chip is bcause of some of the things i have seen on here like it frying a computer or the chip not working properly. i do know that i am getting whatever i got from motorhaven.com is there a phone number where i can call and order the part???
You can also get the superchips micro tuner. It's the New 1715 with three programs. Mild performance, high performance towing and ***** out no towing. It's a great tuner.
