Hey guys. Got a brand new 460 just dropped into my 69 F100. I started the cam break in, and 5 minutes in it shot out the driver side freeze plug that's behind the engine mount. Any idea what would cause this? I went and got one of the screw in type ones just so I could finish the break in, but it shot that one out too. Looking for suggestions on where to start looking for issues...
Yikes, is this a rebuild or a crate motor? The hole for the plug may be loose, perhaps a oversized plug would work?
Obviously the cooling system runs under pressure, but what pressure radiator cap are you using? It may be stuck closed or higher pressure than the engine can handle. I would start with checking/replacing the cap. Do you have means of checking the cooling system pressure?
I replaced the cap, and installed new freeze plugs all around. It worked, but the engine was short lived. I paid 2K for it, and it only lasted 50 miles, yes 5-0. I lost oil pressure, then just stated shaking and knockin like crazy. I'm trying to get my money back, but the seller is saying because I added an aftermarket intake, that it's my fault.
It was a private seller on craigslist. In his ad he said he was a 20 year certified blah blah blah, and the ad did not say "no warranty". But his PayPal invoice did. I am trying to do a claim through PayPal, but he declined giving me a refund because I added an aftermarket intake. He didn't say anything about no aftermarket stuff. Besides...adding an intake doesn't affect the oiling system.
I'm pulling it today and tearing it down. He seems to think that I am an F'ing idiot, and I know nothing about engines. A new rebuilt engine doesn't fail after 50 miles unless something was not put together right. And the only thing I swapped was the intake, and put the mechanical fuel pump on, because it didn't come with one.
