2005 navigator engine replacement question
thanks all for reading and assisting. I purchased my 2005 navi with 75k, today i'm at 223k, recently it started sputtering, stalling and cutting off when i stopped at lights. When i finally made it to the The dealership they told me something like "left bank lean", one of the cams is badand a bunch of other codes, he said i put too much oil in it and it wasn't serviced in a timely manner (sorry i'm not much a technical car guy, i just love navigators). When i finally picked it up he told me all my timing was bad and I would need a new engine.
with the vehicle almost paid off, I would prefer to put an engine in it, i've priced them and they are decent to very expensive.
my question is, do I need to replace it and does it have to be a navigator engine (meaning could I go with a expedition, aviator). if i replace it with a non-navigator engine will that be bad? I know it's gonna cost me, just trying to keep my cost low

First thing to do is to go to another shop that isn't a dealer and get another opinion. For me the only time an engine should be replaced is when there is physical damage to it. The sputtering and stalling along with a lean code is typical of a weak fuel pump and has nothing to do with a bad engine.
