I'll spare you all the details, because I don't have enough time in the day to type that much. Bottom line I'm being told I have to have a new engine in my 2005, 5.4 Screw, with only 60k miles, no warranty. My question is, what questions should be ask? what are the pit falls? should I request anything special? is their a better option? I've struggled with engine noise, cam phasers, in the past, so I would like to avoid similar problems. I love my truck, just want it running right!
If your engine failure is linked to an injector failure which has hydrolocked the engine, FORD has issued an extended warranty for this problem with the 05's! Check on this.....

Unfortunately, in order for you to get some expert advice from those that know here on FTE, your going to have to offer more details.
About 2 years ago, I bought the truck used, with 53k on it. within days It was knocking like a diesel. I found thru this forum that it was the cam phasers. I had the local dealer replace them and didn't have any problems for the past 18 months, except for a timing chain rattle when I started it. About 2 months ago, the engine started to shutter, and lose some power, the engine light came on, I took it straight home (2 miles)turned it off, and it never restarted for me. I had it towed to the local dealer, after 3 weeks of the tech failing to get it started, they had Ford on the phone. They sent a ecm, replaced sensors, and replaced the cam phaser again. When I picked it up, I noticed, it didn't sound right, before I got out of the parking lot, I realized it didn't have oil pressure. I turned around and notified the service dept. They advised the sending unit was bad. Before I got home 3 miles away the engine was making terrible noises, sounded like cam phasers and valve rattles. I returned it on the next business day. Two weeks later they said I have metal in the oil. After much discussion with the service mgr. I still have to have a new engine. They want to put a long block engine in for 7390.00 less what I already paid. It sounds like the service dept is not doing a very good job, "an understatement". But, I have checked out the tech, and apparently he finished 11th in the country with ford. It's become so frustrating that I just want my truck back after two months without it. My questions remain the same, is their anything I need to know, or ask to make sure I'm not getting into another hassle? Or maybe something I should have them do while their installing the engine? I'm willing to listen to any suggestions. I know I'm getting shafted, but If I change dealerships then I lose the original 1200 I have invested so far from the previous work that they are crediting back.
1. Have you contacted a private engine swap place for a "jasper" engine? I emphasize jasper as it's really the only engine builder with equal quality to a Ford reman engine.
2. How much do you owe on the truck?
3. Have you discussed trading out of it?
4. Have you considered a salvage yard engine and or a possible rebuild of existing engine?
5. Lastly, have you contacted Ford customer service to see if they will give you any financial assistance?

He's already got $1200 into it. Titanfan11, what kind of warranty would you have on a new engine from that dealer?
I would also go with a Jasper remanufactured engine. There are a lot of rebuilders out there and some are even good. Jasper has been around a long time and are known for their quality products in engines and transmissions. The better shops in my hometown of South Bend, In use Jasper engines because of their quality and service. A Ford remanufactured engine would be my second choice.
I would go with a ford reman because it's easier to find a place to do the warranty on it, but both have the same warranty and usually around the same price
I owe about 8k, but I do really like the truck. I did speak with cust service. No dice, won't even consider it, since I bought it used. The really sad part is, I have a 1996 XLT, w the 300 , that has 133k on it, not one problem. It's gotta happen to somebody I guess, it was just my turn.

Sorry about your bum luck on this one. It sounds like the previous owner abused that engine for 60,000 miles. Probably never changed the oil and kept the go pedel to the floor all the time. I would definently get the transmission serviced at the same time. Like someone else on here has said in the past, we only hear about the engines that fail on this forum, but there are thousands out there that run and run without any trouble.
