AE data not present

I finally got the AE and have gone through connecting etc to my 2002 F350 7.3 Power Stroke. Following the class notes in the AE Class I set it up to record the exhaust back pressure, Engine RPM, Baro, etc.
It shows nothing. All 0. I was communicating with the vehicle. I was able to clear the codes. It was reading the sensors when it loaded. I started fresh and then started recording, stared the truck and idled for a few then drove it around the neighborhood. Nothing. The screen showing live data was just a bunch of lat lines at 0.

Is there a problem with the main computer? I had a fault on the GEM and the IDM was posting an "error" but no detail. I also had a fault with the ignition key in circuit and the parking aid module. I've cleared all that so I have to wait for it all to reset to provide more detail.

Here are some notes that might lead to one of the faults. When unlocking the truck with the remote none of the lights come on anymore. The seat heater on the driver's side doesn't work anymore although the switch shows it is on (probably an open in the heater). The parking aid (reverse sensor) doesn't work any more. From what I understand the GEM is body electronics control module. If that is dead will it interfere with the data collection of enhanced power train?

Thanks for the help. I am holding my breath for a response. Hopefully I will not pass out. But my wife is nearby to revive me if needed.

Connection with the truck, but no sensor data? Stuff in the truck not working? A 2002 doesn't have a GEM, it has a VSM on the back of the cab behind the passenger.

Part of troubleshooting is asking the very basics... so I'm not implying anything:

Did you make the connection with the Enhanced Powertrain? When did the problem start with your VSM?
Can you save a screen shot of what AE shows after it's connected, but before you change anything? "prt sc" command, then open an image software like MS paint (part of the Windows operating system). Hold "ctrl" while you press "V", then save your screenshot to post here.

I really appreciate you looking at this. As you know AE is closed on weekends and I will be at work tomorrow. So I hope I can get this resolved today.

I made the connection with the enhanced powertrain. the screen shot here is the set up. I have also saved the session but went fresh for this one.
BTW- I connected to my 2006 F-150 and got live data. I connected to my 2000 F150 and could not get live data. So I am doing something wrong.

Those selected PIDs would show zero with the truck not running. I don't know if you're trying to get the Exhaust Back Pressure absolute PSI, Manifold Air Pressure absolute PSI, and the BARO... but those would give you readings with an engine not running.

That's the point. The truck is running. As I said earlier, on my 2006 I can get all sorts of live readings. On the Power Stroke and the '02 F-150 I get zero. I just picked three or four for my demonstration. I have a session set up as you showed in your AE Class (which is excellent, BTW).

I must have something set up wrong.

I suspect you have everything right, because you're seeing your trouble codes. What bothers me is that GEM message - it looks like you may have a data line compromised. You can "reboot" your modules or the truck by pulling the battery or some fuses, to see how that plays out. You can also try unplugging the OBDII adaptor (until lights go out) and see if that helps.

Thanks Tugly. On my first go around with the tool I had "Help" from a neighbor who used his iPhone to look up stuff on line while I was playing with the tool. I had mentioned that there was no response from the GEM/Central Timer module or whatever it says when a system is not there (See the DTC Data screenshot). I said what the hell is the GEM? so he looked that up and told me. After you questioned me about it I saw that it just wasn't there, so of course there would be no response. As to the problems with the truck, for which I would dearly love to diagnose with this new toy, there are a few but the important one is bad fuel economy and it runs like crap unless it has idled for at least 20 minutes before driving. So to learn the tool, I read your thread "AE Class is in session." I set the tool up exactly the same as you, including the meters, except I also included engine RPMs. Then I started the recorder, started the truck, let it idle for a couple of minutes then started driving. I noticed it wasn't showing any data and came back to the driveway to find out why. Several minutes of messing with it didn't help-, so I set it up on the 2000 F-150. Same results, no live data. Then I set it up on my 2006 F-150 and set a few meters and voila!, live data.

I am cornfused.

I just went through the same thing, turns out they had to send me an older version to get it to work. Mine came with 11.1.1 and they tried 11.1.3 which didn't work. When they sent me 11.1.0, it worked fine so they must have found the issue and created version 11.14. They told me that a new version (12.0) was coming soon.

AE no live data

Not sure if this will help or not but I had the same problem with AE communicating with 08 F250. It would get codes but no live data or on board test. I called Miguel at AE and he instructed me to only retrieve "CURRENT" codes...DO NOT select get "ALL" Did that and all on board testing worked and could view all live data fields.

This. You need software version 11.1.4. They had an issue from 11.1.0 - 11.1.3. I had the same problem. Call AE and they will hook you up with the correct version.

After reading about the different versions I checked mine. It is 9.11*. Did I receive an antique version? I can read and clear DTC's on my 01' 7.3 and 02' Ranger. I will be the first to admit that I am computer challenged but I have not been able to read live data, however I don't know if I have had it set up properly or not.
Thanks, MIke
