Well I retrained the sensors in my winter tires the other day using the key on/off cycle and brake pedal and magnet as explained by discountfordpart over on the Expy forum. Thanks for the info.
All this after my dealership told me they wouldn't reset and they needed to get further into the system to figure out what's wrong.
There was nothing wrong that I could see.
I went in and had a talk with the service manager, and he said I may have ruined the sensors by using a magnet, and that if that was all that was needed to reset them they wouldn't have gone to the expense of spending $10,000 for the scanner. $10,000??? I have seen them on ebay and mac tools for less than $1000.
They couldn't be ruined could they? It's all working fine.
He said this isn't the way Ford wants it done, and he never heard of it or a DVD showing it.
Discountfordpart, can you tell me where this procedure comes from, and whether I've done any harm? Thanks.
Hi Old Farmer! In my truck when the tire training procedure is complete, the horn sound once and the message center display TIRE TRAINING MODE COMPLETE. This means that is all ridht, I think if system work incorrectly or pressure to be low, it must send a signal to TRMS module and the TPM light will illiuminate and will state so in message center.
Where can I find instructions for re-learning the tpms on my 2005 Expedition? I had to install a new sensor and now the light wont go off. I used a K-Tool to check all the sensors are giving off a signal. And the air pressure is correct. Please help
Old Farmer,
Sounds like your Ford Dealer sucks man! I was reluctant to go see mine after I replaced all 4 sensors in my 07 F150, so I went to Walmart first (after the magnet trick failed). Walmart didnt have the right reset tool. I walked in and asked the Ford Service manager how much but he wasn't real familiar with the process, and said around $10. I set the truck into retrain mode with the instructions you used from this forum and told him which tire to reset, and it took less that 90 seconds. He would not accept any money, and would not even allow me to buy him lunch. I guess there are good and bad dealerships. I am out in the county in Gloucester, VA and my good ole boy is just a nice guy. Take care brother!

2006 explorer ,I had just replaced my 4 tires and valve stems at Tire Kingdom, a few days later i heard a thumping sound and then got a tire sensor fault? I went back to Tire KIngdom and they said the clip broke which hold the sensor in place they re-installed and I still have tire sensor fault? I don't know if the sensor is damaged from bouncing around in tire or does it need to be retrained? I think they should be liable for this. Do I need a special tool to train sensor?
can someone help out and explain to me what/how the magnet does? I read the reset procedure detailed in a post which does not reference a magnet and then read the posts that say they used a magnet. Nothing in the original post about using the key on/off routine references a magnet so I am somewhat confused.
