HELP installing engine to Tranny
OK i have just put a freshly rebuild engine in my 89 Bronco, I need your help please, I put the Torque convter on the Automatic transmission shaft, (Is there a certain way to do this, I just lined it up and it slid right on)
Tell me the best way to do get the engine to line up with the tranny, I was thinking to spin the crank and install all the bolts to the converter, does it have to go on a certain way?
I had to slide the transmission back a few inches to get the engine in, Tell me what I do should do next?
Thanks

First, make sure the converter is fully seated and engaging the splines. Push it straight in while rotating it, it should not be sticking out as far as the bellhousing/engine mating surface. If you dont have a tranny jack, you are in for a bad day! Raise and tilt the tranny as needed so it fits perfect on the engine, put in your bellhousing to engine bolts, reach up through the inspection cover and slide the converter forward so the studs are through the flexplate, then put on the converter nuts. Use a good 6 point socket or you will probably strip the converter nuts. Hope this helps.

the difficulty in installing a torque converter is not getting it onto the input shaft and stator support splines. make sure the flats on the torque converter hub are engaged with the pump. if you hold a straight edge across the transmission housing you can measure the distance to the flat area at the studs. that should be slightly more than the flywheel surface to the motor measurment. when the transmission is bolted solidly to the motor and before putting the torque converter nuts on you should be able to wiggle the torque converter stud in the hole in the flywheel. if you don't have the pump engaged properly on the torque converter hub and you start the engine you will destroy the pump and spread metal shavings through the transmission.
