Does anyone here know the trick to installing the Transmission Dipstick tube on an 04 F150 (new body style) with the 5.4l 3 valve engine.
The manual is less than helpful on this item, as the dipstick needs to snake its way past the electrical harness, A/C lines, Catalytic Converters and seat itself into the tranny.
I've tried feeding it from below and from above with no luck. The tube has a bracked that bolts to the block at the back and the tube is twisted and bent to clear all the stuff it needs to get around.
It reminds me of one of those ring puzzles where you have to get the ring from one side to the other and have to twist the tube the right way at certain point, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I assume after 12 years you finished this project but can you or someone tell me the solution. I am having the same issue. 04 5.4l f150 2wd. I have tried putting the transmission filler tube in from the bottom and it seems the top might work best but there is not enough room or correct bends to feed it down. It is definitely a puzzle.
Necro thread revival, sorry, I'm scanning the internet and cannot find help on this.
05, 5.4, 4R75E,
I tried for 2 hours getting this tube in place last night, no luck.
getting the tranny back in was easier than this.
any help appreciated.
Thank you.
Has anyone searched YouTube for a video of those who might have already done this? A quick search I did had a few pop up, not being familiar with the chassis they didn't make a lot of sense to me.
Just strictly guessing the engine and transmission were already installed before the wiring harnesses etc were fitted--Ford wouldn't have given much thought to how an owner or mechanic would go about replacing that tube.
My google-fu is usually very good and I got pretty much nothing.
There's the kid and his GF who take it out with a rachet strap and does not show the install is all I get.
I tried again last night for an hour and ended up re-braking it where I JB welded some pin hole rust spots so I have a new one on order.
Sad state of affairs when you can pull a transmission, set the torque converter nuts on the studs blindly......but can't get the damn dipstick tube to go in place.
