I am looking to replace my EFI with a performance injection system with somthing like somthing from Edelbrock or Holley. Is there a good kit that someone could tell me about? I have a 1990 F150 351W EFI and would like to get rid of the stock EFI.
I have been told that the new Holley system is pretty decent. I am currently gathering parts to make my own system, which I found online. Basically, you assemble a computer from plans, program it to your specs, and install. It is designed to use GM sensors, but can be compensated for Ford systems. Although, IMO, if parts are going into a Ford, that makes them Ford parts.
The stock system is the best. It's already a port injection system (not a cruddy throttle-body), and there are plenty of aftermarket upgrades if you plan on winning at the drag strip. For general driving or off-roading, it's perfect already. Just keep it working right (which is much easier than an aftermarket system) and it'll do everything you want.
If you're having some particular problem with how it runs, pull the codes.
Actually, Steve, the new Holley and Eddy systems are multi-port. They also have an option to run with or without an O2s, can be modified to support mass air, etc.
Do you have any links to both of these units?
I want to get rid of the stock EFI and go with somthing a bit more performance. I dont want to keep the stock system, well because it sux and it is way to big under the hood and covers up the passengers side valve covers. I am building my machine to out perform, not just be good eneough
Both Edelbrock and Holley's website have links within them to their respective systems. I know Hot Rod mag has done reviews on both, you may have to order back issues to get some real details on the systems.
Randalac: Stay W/Ford system. Try checking out the Ford Racing catalog for different options. Convert to mass air, larger injectors.different air filters etc. There stuff better matched to your vehicle with less fuss.
Probably cost less in the long run ,also by changing over to MASS air you now can look at diff.cam shaft
