EFI performance up grades
Would a cam be lost with the computer controls and what would be gained by upping the compression.
All my past exprience with performance is with carbureted engines and I suspect the rules all change with dealing with computer controlled performance.
Thanks fr all input.

I have a post further down about basic tuning, if there are any replies to it they may help you as well, Matt.

I'm going with headers, the Crane cam, fresh valvejob and slightly milling the heads. Already have a 3" catback exhaust and a K&N filter kit, I'll bump the exhaust to 3 1/2" whenever I find a cheap tailpipe. Porting the heads is another possible boost in HP/TQ.
I guess a little more background would help.
This will be a ground up build. I have a 460 out of a 1976 E350 that the machine work on the block and crank has been done. I haven't bought any parts yet and would like to put it together for EFI.
I was thinking of getting heads and manifold from a 90's efi engine and going from there. It will go in a 50's F series pickup probably with a 5 spd manual and not see any towing.
I am not a big fan of headers and also not looking for all out performance. Can I do some work on the heads myself to open the exh ports up a bit and make some useful improvement there. Also what pistons to get a C/R that will work well with the computer controll and EFI. I know I could do this with what I have carbureted and get a very nice performing engine pushing 400 HP with little trouble. Can I do the same with the factory EFI set up.
Go here Re-In-"Car"-nation High Performance and Automotive Repair/index and pay $25.00 for the best step by step home porting instructions with pictures. The porting will make a big diffrence and this is the best place to go for bigblock Ford porting instructions. And cam and headers are a good idea. If you go with headers you will have to have EFI flanges put on any that will fit in a 76 pick-up because the carbed headers wont seal up the ports are diffrent.
