The depth of the pan has no impact on the reading on the dipstick. It will take more fluid to bring it up to that point, but you still have to have it up to the Full mark.
As for leaks after it sits, I've had that problem as well. And, I didn't solve it - except it did seem to no longer be a problem after I sold it. I never did figure out why it only leaked after it sat, but the leak on mine was from the shift lever, where it comes through the case.
Its probably the front pump seal leaking .If its only leaking a little from sitting I would not worry about it.This was a common problem with c6 trans when they sat for a while
How long has it been since the fluid was changed? The various additives go away over time, including the one that causes seals to swell. So a change might help, if not fix, the problem. Or, a dose of an additive for seals.
It was changed a little over a year ago. Mileage wise, that would equate to about 2,800 miles. Additive sounds like a good idea. Any recommendations on which additive?

Try AT 205 Reseal. That stuff is great for sealing up little leaks. I've used it successfully in a boat steering system and in a jack. Worked both times for me. I've heard a lot of good thing from other people about it too. Amazon.com has it for under $10.
