C6 Pan leaking

The oil pan on my C-6 trans is leaking. I changed the fluid put everything together perfect and it leaked. I took it to a shop when the leaking got real bad and their job now leaks after 15K miles. It stinks when it is hot, it drips on the floor, I have tried cork and rubber gaskets following the torque specs and keeping things clean.

What if I just used the sealant used for the diff covers on the transmission pan and not use a gasket? My buddy tried it and says it hasn't leaked yet. I guess the only drawback would be the next time you changed the fluid you would have a little extra work cleaning up the surfaces.

Any suggestions?

I also added a temp gauge to the trans but, I have no idea what the danger temp would be. The gauge goes to 250 I think and it has gotten up to 180 when it is really hot outside.

Flatten and straighten the flange on the pan. Most leaky C6 pans have had the bolts overtightened and the flange is distorted. You should only use the oem cork gasket and no sealer. Tighten the bolts evenly to 90-100inch lbs. If the pan is straight and properly torqued the other place the C6 leaks that looks like a pan leak is the dipstick tube. The oil will crawl over the edge of the case and run all the way around the pan looking like a pan leak.

Shifter seal might be leaking, or the kickdown O ring seal.

I have had excellent results with a cork gasket and a very thin coating of wheel bearing grease on both sides of the gasket.

I have owned it since it was new. The pan has only been off 3 times when I changed fluid in the past. I replaced every internal part when I put a new engine in, I put a straight edge on the pan before I put it together. I did have the best luck with the cork gaskets in the past but they start leaking after a while. The service kit came with a rubber gasket, it worked for about 10k miles but is now leaking bad. The top of the trans is clean, it is leaking from around the gasket for sure.

It is expensive to change the gasket when it starts leaking, I would just rather seal the thing and have it not leak. I can't see any problem with sealing the pan silicone or the stuff used to seal the diff covers and putting some lock washers on the bolts and getting all the bolts torqued to specs.

I removed all the bolts after I ran it for a while, cleaned all the bolts holes, applied some black silicone to the bolts and re-installed. This helped for a while and probably didn't help the gasket much.
