buying a radiator

I'm going to replace the radiator in my truck for various reasons and am a bit overwhelmed with my choices.

I've looked at all the radiators sold by O'reily, Advanced, NPD & LMC. They all seems to be the same. I've seen some folks on here using alumminum, that intersts me. What have you guys used with good success?

Has anyone used this unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-69-70-71-72-73-74-75-76-77-78-79-Ford-Pickup-Truck-3-Row-Aluminum-Radiator-/151053548182?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item232b7e3a96&vxp=mtr#ht_5454wt_1390

This will be replacing a tired 3 row radiator in my 1970 F250 with a stock 390 and auto trans. This truck has A/C and is used for towing a camper for trips as long as 6 hours.

I will be installing a Mark VII fan at some point but for now just want to replace the old radiator.

I have a Griffin in another vehicle that is great but man are they expensive.

Found the manufacuter's site for that radiator I posted.

http://www.championcooling.com/

I'm not dead set on alumminum but just wonder about the quality of the local parts stores copper/brass units.

I went through looking for a radiator a couple months ago.
Be very leary of the chain store radiators. For my 70, the one they all had would not even mount into the vehicle.

Had a Champion 3-row aluminum radiator with Taurus fan on my (not mine anymore) Maverick and loved it.

Have that radiator on my '70 F100 with a T-bird elect fan and it looks great. Haven't run it yet.

If you have the narrower radiator now you'll want to open up the radiator support. The Campion radiator fits the wide radiator space. The white line is where it was cut to expose the whole radiator.

The Champion brand is sold by several online retailers/speed shops and they have another line called American Eagle. Same company based in CA. I called them and 95% of all their radiators are built in their factory in China. They build some smaller radiators in house but none for our trucks. They do sell direct but their prices are about $100 more than the distributors. They offer a 2, 3 or 4 row alum radiator for our trucks in the Champion brand and a single row with large tubes in the American Eagle brand, that is their economy line. They offer a lifetime warranty but you have to go through the distributor unless you buy it direct. I asked if they have strict quality control, they said "we try", at least their are honest. Food for thought.

Gembone, what did you end up using for your 70?

MavSprint sold me his stock radiator because the upper outlet was on the wrong side for the motor he implanted.

Wish I could be helpful in your search. I got lucky with him not using his.

I have a champion in my truck and I have no complaints. I'll probably buy another for my Mustang when the time comes to replace the stock one.

I called NPD because they list ready-rad radiators, part number 2302 is $404 from them, Advance has the same thing for $284. NPD cliams built in North America, where? I talked to the NPD rep and asked why the price difference he didn't have any idea but want buge on their price.

You guys running the champion are you running the 3 row version, part number CC433?

I have had great success with the Modine brand for 40 years now. These trucks have enough air flow that a 3 row is all that is needed.

Only if you plan on sitting & idling do you need to think about something different.

Modine is no longer, Vista-Pro bought them out and sell Ready-Rad. I'm thinking their 3 row 436002 is the way to go but they cost $400. The aluminum versions are $200.

Anthony, Just checked Advance Auto online the 4 row 436002 there is $285.00, the 433433 is $157.00.

I keep 1976 in my line up there for my below chassis parts. There were several more listed for the 76 than the 66. FE engine requirements will share.

I saw that one but what concerned me was it said "toughone or readyrad", I know vista-pro makes ready-rad in Mexico and it's a good product but I can't find anything on "toughone". What conflicts me is NPD & Summit both carry readyrad but their price is over $400 for the same radiator that advance sells for $285. Oreily's carries the same part numbers for a "Murrary" brand. I did have a nice conversation with the folks at Vista-Pro, nice bunch of folks. I'm bad about splitting hairs when I purchase things.

Thanks for all the help.
