It's been awhile since I've been on here, but since my first toy is almost payed for its time to start the search again and this time I need something a little more dirt friendly. As the title states I'm kinda confused as to were the best starting point would be.
What I want to build is a 73-77 F250 highboy supercab with a cummins and other odds and ends. but right now I want to know what the best options are as far as starting trucks to mix and match the body and frame.Should I look for a 78-79 SC highboy frame and mount a 73-77 2wd supercab body to, or use a 73-77 2wd frame.... I'm just not sure where to start and I think I searched pretty well so if I over looked another thread please point me to it.
MODS: I just realized i posted this in the 67-72 section, please forgive my mistake, and if you could move it to the correct section I would appreciate it Thank You

Reason: wrong section
You want something dirt friendly, so I assume you want 4WD?
A 4x4 Frame will get you there a lot quicker. Also, you'll get beat on here in a second if I don't quickly point out to you that a 78-79 anything will not be a "Highboy". It'll just be a regular ol' F250.
in my opinion a 78-79 frame and running gear is your best bet . they have true power steering, power front disk brakes, high pinion front axles, and married transfer case. but they are not high boys. high boys ended in 1977.5. but a lift is pretty easy and cheap (front and rear leaf spring). then find a suitable body 73-79. I'm in California so we find 73-75 2wd bodys with title and avoid smog laws and drop whatever engine you want in your truck. I just built a 1974 supercab 4wd and that's what I did it worked great.
I did not realize that thank you! that's good information to have. And yes 4x4 is what I'm wanting. So let me rephrase what I want,
I'm wanting to build a 1973-1979 4x4 manual trans supercab longbed with the body from a 1973-1977.5
After reasearching some more, Im wondering are the only differences in the 77 and earlier bodies vs the 78/79 bodies the front clip? The reason I as is because I like the look of the 73-77.5 more than the 78/79's
Ok cool I'm not worried about needing to change springs or put a lift kit on it because with the cummins I'll have to anyways. In 78/79 did they make a f250 or f350 supercab long bed 4x4?

not true, only the crew cabs were shortbed only. the supercab f250 4x4, I believe was only available with longbed. I had one and I shortened the frame to accept a shortbed. but you could get a 2wd f250 supercab shortbed or longbed. check out the truck on my profile. it's a 1974 f250 4x4 supercab 460 engine, 4spd trans. that truck was never offered I had to custom build it.
