Question 72-79?

Is there a difference between a 72 f-250 and a 79 f-250 frame?

If you're refering to 4x4's then yes, the major difference is the 67-77.5 frames are aprox. 4" narrower in the rear than the 77.5-79 frames.

78-79 250 frame are gonna be what you want.... the best axles, drivetrain and steering options... as long as you can drill a few holes it wont be that hard to make work... i did a 68 f100 onto a 78 f150 frame 8 years ago and am planning a 71-72 shortbed 4by project when the supercab deisal project is done...but any 250 4X4 frame could be made to work without much work

Alright thanks. So would any holes need to be drilled in the body or just frame? So the body would fit with no problems other than drilling a few holes right?

all the holes get drilled in the body.....you'll need to convert the motor you use to points or convert the truck to electronic ignition... the last one i did ended up with a a mallory dualpoint distrubuter and ignition... i used a 73-77 front bumper as it fits and looks like it should be there.... steering will need to be adressed.. the coulm to box connection specificly...i got the original to fit with some minor work...the fuel tank in cab acn be used you only need to refit it to the current lines...i'd recommend a disc drum power brake setup if you don't already have one...the more modern frame won't work right with the old drum and drum master...other than that i can't think of much else that may be in the way....

F250 4WD High Boy 33 1/2" rear frame rails behind the cab vs F250 4WD not a High Boy 37 1/2" rear frame rails.

1977: Last High Boy assembled before serial number Y20,001 (February 1977).

yes the msd ignition will work... and the differance between the highboy and non are significant...
1-the t-case went from divorced to maried
2-the fe motors got replaced with the 351m/400
3-the frame rear section was widened and brought to more level...
4-the steering was improved to a enclosed and direct...
5-the leaf springs were reduced in number and dearched some for a lower stance...
6-the front axle was changed to a high pinion configuration
there may be a coupkle other differance so if anyone else wants to chime in...
