I am taking a 300 efi i6 with the tranny witch i think is an m5od but im not to sure out of a 91 f150 costum and a danna 44 and rear nine inch out of a 70's (not sure on the exact year) f150 ranger and putting it all in my bii. My question is sence my bii has a Rpm meter and the f150 custom doesn't is it possible to hook it up in my bii? I would Much rather have it if its possible. Thanks for the help.
Since your question wasn't in any way related to the engine, I've moved your thread to a forum where you'll have an easier time getting the answers you need. Best of luck with your swap!
edit: the ford nine inch doesnt have the vss sensor on it so your speedometer wont work with the ford nine inch, most people say just use the 8.8, they say it is just not worth the hassle trying to make it work and the ford 8.8 is just as strong in stock form
ahh makes sense, not really a bronco guy myself. anyway, being that i am not a bronco guy i have no clue, but i can tell you someone with more knowledge will come along, i can also say that even if it doesnt work adding an aftermarket one is easy to do.
Yep, you can use the B2 cluster's tach. You still have a 6 cylinder engine even though its a inline. Now if put in a V8 engine then you would have to change the tach to a V8 one or it will read lower RPM's
You just need to trace the tach wire and hook it to the coil's neg side.
What year is our B2? I have a 89 and though about stuffing a 300/AOD in mine.
It's an 89 bronco ii. If I can use the original I would much rather do that but I could live with an aftermarket. I've never installed one tho. I'm not sure where this coil neg is on my bii tho. I can trace the tach wire and maybe figure it out from there. I wasn't sure if it would be to the tenant or the diff. I will defanetly post pics but I haven't started the swap yet. I am going to sart taking the 300 and tenant out o the f150 this weekend. I'm still trying to figure out everything I am going to need like the wiring harness for motor and tranny. I was thinking I could unplug it from the fire wall and take the computer out not o sure what else I will need yet. I want to keep as much as I can from intake exhaust ext. to peace everything together. It's ping to be a tight squeeze to get it in there. Body lift prolly electric fan conversion. Some one also suggested I put new cross-members for the tranny and engine. Ill most likely keep the old ones in if I do for added support. Witch reminds me. Is it possible to put the shifter from an m5od-r1 and put it in an m5od-r2? I may just make a custom shifter anyway.
A 300 big six is a long engine. You will have to mod the firewall seam(like v8 swaps or body lift). While looking at my 89 B2 and a 300 efi, the AC compressor will be right in the steering box! So it will not fit. Now if you go back to the V belt setup, the AC compressor sits higher up hopefully clearing the steering box.
Radiator clearance is a issue big time, you probly need to stuff it under the radiator support(some V8 guys do that). Electric pusher fan in front of radiator is a must.
Also the EFI intake may hit the AC/heat box depending how you center your engine.
There are others who stuffed a 300 six in a Ranger pickup which is the same as a B2. SO it can be done but its alot of work fabing things up.
I may still do the 300 six in my B2 in time. Right now I have to swap out my dead 302 in my 89 F250 with a 300 six engine! Just modified the ECU harness of the 302 so it will hook to the 300 engine. This weekend its swap out time.
Yeah I am going to park next to I and do some comparing. I don't have a problem eliminating the a/c if t will help sence I am in Alaska and only get 4-7 day of sun in the summer time! Now I don't remember I it's v belt or not. I mysel like the b belt better. I'm def. going to stuff the radiator under he support and get a pusher and a puller I I can get them both to fit.? Who knows ill figure it out. A long as I don't get an over heatin problem.
I've seen lots of different ways to get around the heat box on v8's I know that can be done. I personally like the 300 better then the 302 in a pick up or most 4x4's it will be nice in a f250 by if I went with a sports at I would prolly do a v8. I also got all the stuff I need for a GREAT price.
That's good I don't want a big body lift. 2" would be good even if I still have to mod the fire wall. I haven't heard much about this swap and never found a tech write up. Most people will just do the 4.0 or 5.0 swap.
Most others are gun-ho on a 302 swap and bash the I6. I use my trucks as trucks so I like the down low torque the 300 makes.
The reason I want to do the I6 swap in my Bronco2 is to try getting MPG's. My 89 F250 with the 302 only gets 13 to 14 MPG while a same truck with a 300 gets 17 to 19MPG. As a Bronco2 is smaller vehicle and with gearing correct, I wonder if it could get 20+ mpgs!
I see V8 swaps all the time but no 300 I6 swaps! For me my B2 is only 2x2, so a 300 swap will be little easyer.
I'm here in Sw Florida so AC is good , but in Alaska heat is a must! Just get a belt for a truck without AC.
I like the low end torque as well. I already get about 20 miles a gallon with my 2.9 so I should get at least the same. Maybe better with it being a lighter truck. I hear that with the right gearing you can get up to around 30 a gallon witch would be awesome! But if you get gearing for the best gas mileage I was wondering what you would be sacrificing for it. I'm not sure how high my truck will be lifted yet so I'm not sure on the tire size yet either.
I have heard if your truck came with a/c you need to put an eliminator pully on it. I don't see why you and just get a belt for a truck with out it tho if it came optional from te factory.
