blown engine, swap options?

im doing a little research for a friend that has a 1993 4x2 f150 with a blown engine.

i did a bit of searching but really cant find the info i want...

the blown engine is a 300 I6 EFI.

so far we have found a 78 4x4 f150 with a 300 I6 (probably carbed?) in it, and another 88 F150 with a 302 EFI (not sure if its 4x4 or 4x2)

both are about the same price, +- $50

my question is this..

for the 78 with the 300 I6: will the I6 out of the 78 be a strightforward swap? or will he run into problems with sensors and such? can he just drop the block and head into his truck and keep the intake and exhaust thats already in there (so he can keep the efi)? and, since the donor truck is 4x4, can he just remove the transfer case and leave the tranny on it (will his drive shaft fit right in?), or will he have to take the tranny off his blown engine and put it on the donor engine?

for the 302: is this a plug and play swap, or will he have to make changes with the engine mounts, engine harness, and will the exhaust or hangers need modification since his truck originally had a 300?

there are probably other donor trucks around, but these two are the ones we're looking at right now, i dont think there are any other trucks with 300 I6's in them tho that we have seen anyway.

the objective is to make this cheap and easy, just need the truck on the road, dont care about power or what engine is better

thanks!

I don't think there were many changes to the 300 block over the years.. but I could be wrong.. I would ask in the I6 forum..as for the 302, you would probably have to change the computer, exhaust, radiator, and a bunch of other stuff..going with another 300 would probably be your cheapest and easiest option..
