High EOT questions

when towing my trailer 5000# the EOT has been running about 15* higher than the ECT. After a cold soak they are the same. I ordered a oil cooler from Tousley , but now I need to know where to get the coolant flush, and what kind to get.
Thanks for your help Ron

I used Restore and Restore Plus. They are Cummings products, so if you have a dealer near you they will have it. Make sure you have lots of water to flush all that out after you do it.

If you have an 05-07 you may want to also replace the STC fitting on the HPOP while you are in there.

Depending on where you live you may also want to do an upgrade to the EGR system.

Just so you know the 15 degree rule is for running down the highway @65 mph unloaded after everything is up to temp.

The old spec was a 25 degree Difference at a steady 65mph and then updated to a 15 degree spread at WOT.

However, I do feel holding a steady 65 unloaded gives more feedback than a short WOT run.

Josh: you made that point in another thread some time back and I just have to add a supporting couple words:

Now that I've done more extensive data logging and tried doing both types of tests under several conditions. I really cannot see how a Ford tech doing the WOT test (particularly as vague as it's written) can get any kind of repeatable or reliable results. On the other hand, steady state cruising seems to produce much more stable and repeatable data (deltas).

I likely changed out an oil cooler that I'm doubting was bad for the updated one with one more row. My deltas are almost the same!

Moral of the story: Listen To Josh!!!

I agree, the updated Oil cooler TSB is so vague. Seriously WOT to what? 45 mph? 55? 90?

And some claim its done with a load or with hills. Sure it is.

Most of the dealers around me couldn't do much more than 50.

When I have done my own tests starting for example 190 ECT and 194 EOT and WOT to 65+ I got 198 ECT/EOT.

Ummmm K so I guess my oil cooler is perfect then.

But steady 65 on the highway is more like 7-8 degree spread.

I think you need to replace the oil cooler and the egr cooler at the same time. General consent here is using the BP egr cooler.

15* spread isn't an issue when towing. They could go higher after the flush though.
