Having problems with my truck starting. Just replaced battery and thought that my relay was bad and replaced it. Turn the key but nothing happens. Everything else works just not the starter. I jumped the relay with a screwdriver and got the truck started so I know juice is going to starter. Is there a fusible link or fuse that could be bad in this situation?
Not sure if there is any fusible links but I had the same thing happen on a'92 bronco and it ended up being the ignition switch. A mechanic friend at the time said it was common thing to go bad, but don't know if ford still used the same style on our trucks.
If its automatic, try starting in neutral and see what happens. Or,,gently hold up on shifter handle and try to start. Could be just a misadjusted shift linkage or bad gear selector switch(that's not the correct name, drawing a blank right now) at transmission.

Neutral safety switch. Didn't even think about that. That's what I get for posting when I get home from work, my brain isn't working right.
Lol. I hear that. The odd thing is that it started a couple weeks prior and then sat for the rest of the time? Is there a way to check the switch
Did you use the ATSG manual when you rebuilt the transmission? There is a diagram for the DTR sensor (neutral switch) that will show the terminals to check. See pages 10-11.

I'm not sure how to do it, my mechanic friend at the time figured it out for me. I know he took the covers off the column to see what all was moving. If I remember right there are two rods that go from the ignition to the actual switch and those get bent and wont move the switch under the dash enough.
But I dont know if these trucks have the same style ignition.
