what should the whistle sounds like when it's "de-foiled"?

Beside many other things I did over the past week while I was replacing the water pump and doing things under the valve cover, I de-foiled the down pipe and painted both tubes hot red. Took her out for the first ride. I hear a really high pitched sound as the boost pressure builds up. I assumes that's what I should expect, but not sure. I have a low pressure turbo on my 91 Volvo station wagon and the whistle on that thing is loud and Really sounds like someone is whistling. I can manipulate the gas pedal to produce a real fire truck siren. Is there a video somewhere with good sound effect? Thx

Other things done last week: new GPs, updated upper coolant hose, 50cent, re-torques under valve cover, cooling system flush, Zerex precharged.

Its hard to get the whistle noise because the engine is so loud. If you are worried about the noise being right double check everything. The de-foil mod shouldnt make a huge difference. If you notice a huge difference chances are there is a small leak somewhere. Go through and look for boost leaks.

Look through my video library and maybe you will find an example of what youre looking for.

Edit: This site treats all youtube links like videos. So below is the "video" that links to my profile. Click the white title at the top and it will take you to my YouTube profile

Mine was definitely noticeable after the foil delete. My engine is pretty quiet with new bellowed up pipes, Hutch mod and FRx. When I accellerate I can hear the whistle almost like a big rig, not too loud but music to my ears.

When I took the foil off, the high frequency whine of the turbo was much more noticeable in the cab. I had also done this the same time I replaced my 6637 with the S&B, so it's likely the quieter intake made it more audible.

I did my uppipes, WW install and foil delete all at the same time. After getting it back together and taking it on the test drive I was suprised how much louder the whistle is. Im sure the WW has a lot to do with it.

On a side note, unless my RPM's are around 2k or above I dont hear any turbo, absolutely zero whistle until around the 2k mark. I did a boost leak check and everything is good, does this sound like the same experience for everyone else?

I have plenty of whistle all the way down to idle... but this is more a matter of exhaust selection. My stock turbo held its own against my current 38R, so wheel selection didn't stifle Stinky's serenade.

Foil delete? Yuck. That's like shoving whistles up your wife's nose and your nose before bed time. The mod does nothing for whistle out the exhaust, just the noise in the front... and the drone on a long stretch of road can kill the comfort and calm in the cab. Heads will implode... but that could just be me.

heared the whistle today driving on the highway. It's the loudest when I'm cruising and just step on the pedal a little bit. It sounds the same as my low pressure old Volvo station wagon one. Actually I was able to manipulate the sound, not quite able to make a tune out it yet, with time, I surely will. It's kind of "lower frequency" almost like mouth whistling. Beside that, There is still a much higher-pitched sound that I need to figure out what that is. Erwin

Dont knock it til you try it. I like the cleaner look and the whistle is just right IMHO. Whistle is most likely due to the S&B more than the pipe insulation. With your AIS, I'll bet it would not be any more noticable.

I rode in two rigs with the 6637. If it sounds remotely similar, I still say yuck. Stinky is a no-whine zone... but whistle is warmly welcomed.
