HPOP replace, few questions

So I have a van that makes things harder for most things.

my van has 331k on the clock and since I have owned it I have been putting $ into it.
so I found a leak after rebuilding my fuel bowl. granite it was easier to take it out the first time. but still I didn't want to do it twice.

BUT since its out I had a crazy idea to get a T500 so I dont have to do this later. so needless to say I ordered the removal too on monday from Clay. unfortantly still waiting. was hoping to get it out today so I can ship it off on Monday since there calling for snow tomorrow. seems like my luck of everytime I get new parts or want to work on the van the weather gets cold.

while its out I am getting new HPOP hoses cause I am sure mine is tired. probably not going to get a new IPR. (is that a bad idea or do you think I will be good?) T500 $450, hoses $200 etc. getting out of reachalready on funds.

so today I got the resevoir out cause it will be easier to get to the HPOP. also took off the upper hose, thermastat and housing cause mine was looking bad.

I guess my questions are:

do I lube the gasket on the resevoir with something like dieletric grease or diesel when I put the it back together?

also since its out should I replace the upper cap gasket even though I have not taken it off. just the lower one? trying to save $ where I can. plus I can do that one easy enough later if I have to.

new IPR? or just rebuild

I will order;
new hoses
IPR rebuilt kit for or rings
T500
resevoir gasket (with screen)

updated already
:
fuel bowl is good now ( i hope when I get it back it), thanks to Bob and Guzzle.
new upper hose and thermestat and housing,
new o-rings on the fuel heater and fuel sleeves.
Idler pully is new too. new EGBs sensor and tube (think its called that)

is there anything else I should touch before I get this back together cause its getting old letting it sit and lack of funds to keep working in it. plus I want to start the inside build for making it more comfortable. home built SMB. and deal with my metal tank issue next.

I am sure there is more, but having a few beers for paddy's day weekend.
Cheers all

Check the fuel line running from the bowl back to the passenger side head while you have it all apart. Mine had some pitting and wear right under the little bracket that holds it close to the head. You can make your own hose removal tool if you need to...quite simple really. You could use a dinner fork...seriously. Just knock the two center prongs off and there you go. I bought mine from Bob, though.

As far as the IPR goes, I'm rebuilding mine. It is simple and if rebuilding it doesn't work it should be easy to change out later. I am guessing you are not having problems with yours? My HPOP seems to put out great pressure, so I am just resealing mine...new o-rings all around and gasket. Rebuilding the fittings as well.

I am lubing my HPOP reservoir gasket with motor oil when I put it back in there.

like i said I probably forgot something.
that fuel line is new already. got replaced when I first got back from my drive from Maine to Montana.

I will wait for the removal tool cause is in the mail. just hope it gets here soon.
as for HPOP, i know they get tired and I did an Adreniline from Deiselsite on my truck when I owned it and it worked good.
so I am just swapping it to just cause. hoping to bring back some life to my van.

I just used a 9/16 end wrench and grind it down thinner and it worked fine to remove the lines. Rebuild the fuel bowl if it hasn't been done. I didn't touch my IPR when I upgraded to the T500, its fine 30K later. And the o-ring type gasket that goes on top of the res. tank is fine just to place it back on.

When I did my T500, I did the fuel bowl rebuild, FRx, and HPOP hoses all at the same time. My IPR was doing fine until I swapped injectors. Rebuilding the IPR is a good idea, but if you're not experiencing symptoms and you're pressed for time... do this on your next oil change (drain hpop reservoir).

I have considered the FRx, but that will have to wait. tank has to be next. I need a new tank cause it will bring the van down sooner than later. that will lead to injectors etc. Check Tim H's threads on his van.

Happy St Paddy's day all
Cheers

finally got my HPOP out and ready to ship off. had trouble to get the IPR off, so I am sending it of with it.

am considering getting a new one after I have getting it out. I am curious how it works with that piece that slides off once you take the loose nut off. anyway just trying to understand how it works.

here is what it looks like.

HPOP lines

then this is why I got a new thermastat and housing. mind you I have a van so its top is different then the trucks. new hose also.

boy has this turned into a job.

Man, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be able to turn another wrench till I cleaned that motor!!! I'm so OCD about having clean equipment it would stop all work in its tracks. I easily spent equal amounts of time cleaning and wrench turning this past weekend. I have to say...I LOVE THAT VAN! Seriously! 4x4 plus all the comforts of a small motorhome....super cool.

The HPOP provides the pressure, but the IPR is a tiny valve that "oscillates" open and closed to regulate the pressure to the injectors. The IPR piston is in the middle of an enclosed body, and the tin nut just holds a magnetic coil on the outside of that enclosure. It's just an electromagnet that fits over a tube, then a tin nut locks the magnet on it. That's all you see in the photo.

This is the best time to really clean that valley. You won't get this much access to the valley for years to come... unless you pop an intake plenum. I used rags and spray, but I really wished I had brushes, kerosene, and air when I did the plenums.

Thanks Tug,

yeah I am a clean freak too. I dont know how many times I am working something and get distracted with a screw driver to scrap the crud into the valley so I can get it out before everything goes back in.

I also get to a point that I am done too. just want to get it back together.

but again, as I have a great opportunity to clean cause the HPOP is out and will be shipped soon. yeah well last night it snowed again with a wet snow then the temps dropped and was an ice rink.

that makes it so much more fun trying to clean things when its below freezing. yes I still do love Montana, but would be nice if I had a shop. lol

Yeah. We had that system the day before you did, and it came with wind... boulders-dropping-on-road wind.

Nothing really helpful to add, except to say, Cool Van ! ! !
And hang in there Buddy!
And thanks for the pictures (I always wondered what was under that HPOP thingy).
Please keep the pictures coming (including more of your up-pipes as installed).

[Now I am sorry (kinda) for continuing to pray for more snow in the Sierras!]

I oh I love snow and pray for it all the time. what sucks is I live 16 miles from Bridger bowl, 40 miles from Big sky or moonlight basin, but I can't afford to go.

the fact I will be finishing up my commerical pilot rating this summer is why I want more snow. fire season sucks and makes flying in it even more crappy. the snow will help that.

just hard to work on or around the rig in those condition.

met a couple with a 03 SMB. saweet rig and onlyl 80K on the clock. boy was I jealous.
