Have a 95 F350 with gas engine
No tach. Can I put one with a tach
and no other mods. I changed one
on an 82 and had no problems.
Thanks, Dan
I just went thru a similar issue a couple of weeks ago.
I had purchased a tach cluster out of a 97 F350 460 and needed to know what changes I would need to make to make it work in my 95 F150 I6.
There seems to be different opinions about whether it would work and any changes that it might need.
After a few days of research and conflicting answers I decided to install it without making any other changes.
It has worked perfectly in my truck for a couple of weeks now.
The 96/97 F250Hd and F350's were exempt from OBDII requirements (except California trucks) so they, at least in my experience will "bolt right up".
The problem with the 1996 or 1997 clusters in a 1995 is in the RABS part of the cluster.
The problem with the 1992 or 1993 clusters in a 1995 is that it will not charge without repining the plugs.

Are you saying that the 96 and 97 F250HD and F350 OBDI clusters also would have the same issues in the 95 with the RABS? Or is it just the 96 F150 cluster with OBDII?
First off the emissions system (OBD-I or OBD-II) have nothing to do with the cluster nor does the size of the truck (F-150 to F-350). They use the same cluster.
There was a guy on here that was tring to put a 1995 cluster in a 1996 and we never did get the RABS part of the cluster working right. I think he did try doing a mod to get it to work but I think it failed.

Thanks for clearing up about the OBDI and II issue for me subford. Although I'm still confused as to why the switch seems to have worked in my truck.
wally4684, I apologize for hijacking your thread, and I hope I didn't further confuse the issue.
What part of the RABS system is integrated into the cluster? I have a 96 truck with antiskid and as far as I can tell, the only way the cluster interfaces with it is that it contains a warning light.
