New Instrument Cluster

Has anyone tried hooking up a different instrument cluster? Like, adding an instrument cluster with a tach when the original didn't have one.

Does everything just hook up and magically work, is there a need to run a wire for the tach?

next question is :

What about the mileage, does it read the mileage of the new cluster?

Yes, a tach cluster of the same style will plug directly in. But be careful, a couple years have different wiring for the voltmeter which could cause charging problems. I'm assuming you have a 92-96. If so, when you have the cluster out, each section (guages, speedo, tach) pops out separately. So you can put your old speedometer in the new cluster to keep the same mileage.

I was specifically talking about a 95 F-150. A buddy has a 95 F150 and the truck had no tach so he purchased a instrament cluster from a 93 or 95 Bronco to replace it with. He bought it for a couple of reasons; he had no tach and the temp gauge was not working and the sensor on the engine has already been replaced. Hopefully this works.
